WWE SmackDown kicks off with clips from last week’s show involving Jeff Hardy and Sheamus.
WWE Backlash contract signing – Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus
Live in the Performance Center, Renee Young is in the ring for the contract signing. Young welcomes Sheamus out to the ring first. He makes his way down to the ring with a doctor who is holding a jar and security guards. They place a large black square in the ring as well. Renee welcomes Jeff Hardy to the ring.
Young asks Sheamus what everything is about. He says he doesn’t want to offend her. Jeff accuses Sheamus of hitting a man with a car. Sheamus says he had nothing to do with what happened between himself and Elias. Hardy tells him not even his security team will be able to help him at Backlash.
Sheamus says the security is here for him. Before he signs the contract, he needs assurance. He says Jeff can’t be trusted. It could be the alcohol or the pills. That’s why he got his lawyer to convince WWE management that for the safety of everyone, before he signs, Jeff will have to take a urine test. He tells Jeff if he fails, which he probably will, he will be in a lot of trouble. And there would be no match at Backlash because he won’t step in the ring with a junkie.
Jeff says his name is Jeff Hardy and he is an alcoholic. And if this is what he has to do to get to Sheamus, he’s fine with that. Alcohol, addiction, he is tired of fighting. He goes to meetings every week where he talks about how he let his family, fans and himself down. And he is sick and tired of being sick and tired. His demons are starving and sometimes is all it takes to feed them is to be in the presence of a bastard like Sheamus. But not this time. He will go along with it just to get his hands on him on Sunday.
Sheamus says it takes 24 hours to get the results of a test but thanks to the doctor, he will administer a rapid test. And Sheamus even paid for it himself. And just so there are no shenanigans, the doctor will supervise the whole thing. Sheamus tells Renee to leave because Jeff looks like he is having a bit of stage fright.
Renee leaves the ring as Jeff goes to urinate. Sheamus says this is a message to the kids. If you’re a user, you’re a loser. Don’t end up like Jeff Hardy, don’t do drugs. The whole thing is done as the referee does his examination. Sheamus asks Jeff if he wants to apologize to his family or if he wants to issue a positive message to everyone at home.
Jeff says sometimes it’s better to be pissed off than to be pissed on. Jeff throws the jar of urine onto Sheamus and signs the contract. Sheamus is disgusted as Jeff leaves the ring.
We start off WWE SmackDown with a urine test. I am enjoying this feud involving Jeff Hardy and Sheamus, urine and all. #SmackDown

Not a bad match but that ending probably looked better in their heads. It came a bit off on television. My guess is we get a tag team title match added at Backlash between these two teams. #SmackDown

If Tucker and Otis try anything funny, we saw his actions last week, he has no obliterating some heavy machinery.
That was a SmackDown classic involving AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan. Four commercial breaks, a ton of wrestling involving two of the best in the world and no near falls. No wonder they had this on SmackDown and not Backlash. No match on Backlash is topping this. #SmackDown

I'm smelling a King Corbin and Otis feud which could be decent. Not a bad main event to end the show. No cashing in the Money in the Bank tease. #SmackDown

Just a great SmackDown, in large part because of AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan. Go out of your way to watch it. The rest wasn't bad either but that one is a match of the year contender. #SmackDown
