Smackdown kicks off with WWE Champion Daniel Bryan coming down to the ring with Rowan. Bryan gets in the ring and points to the titan tron. Clips of last week’s contract signing airs where we see Kofi Kingston talk about his 11 years with the company.
Bryan says that last week he remained silent as everyone gushed over Kofi Kingston. And he remained silent as Vince McMahon replaced Kofi Kingston with Kevin Owens at Fastlane. But this time, it is his turn to speak and their turn to remain silent. Rowan tells the crowd to shut up and to open their ears because Daniel will enlighten everyone. A loud “Kofi” chant from the crowd.
The champion says he isn’t out here to talk about Kofi Kingston and why would he because Kofi is not a leader. Kofi is a supporting player, which is why Kofi is exactly where he should be; with his buddies the New Day on a promotional tour in India. Vince was right to replace him but maybe he shouldn’t have replaced him with Kevin Owens. Daniel says he understands why everyone likes Kevin Owens because Kevin Owens is just like them. He looks like them, he thinks like them and he does not deserve a shot at the WWE championship.
Because Kevin Owens is a nobody. But that’s what makes him so dangerous. Because a nobody is somebody with nothing to lose. And he has everything to lose because he is the planet’s champion. He has the pressure of knowing that if he loses, the entire planet loses. And he doesn’t want anyone to call him a martyr.
Kevin’s music hits as the challenger comes out. Kevin says that ever since he got injured 5 months ago, he stepped away from being a superstar and went back to being just a member of the WWE universe. Because for 5 months, he sat down with his family and watched every Raw and every Smackdown Live. And as great as that time off with his family was, it was very hard to sit back and watch other people do what he likes to do. Except when Daniel Bryan was out. Because when Bryan was out, it wasn’t hard it was just awful. It was awful watching him walk out like a maniac and act above everyone. And if there’s something he can’t stand, it’s someone who thinks he is better than everyone else.
Owens says one thing he didn’t like was Bryan throwing the WWE championship in the trash. And at the moment, he knew when he wanted to come back and who he wanted to go after. And he thinks he speaks for the entire WWE universe when he says that Bryan deserves to have his condescending mouth shut and he’s the one who will do it. Bryan says it’s not his mouth he should be worried about considering all the garbage they shove down their throats.
Kevin Owens asks if this is the Daniel Bryan who resorts to fat jokes. Kevin says Bryan is a pretentious jackass. But he doesn’t have a reality show, he doesn’t have a 7 foot tall back-up dancer. Bryan cuts him off and says the only reason he doesn’t have a 7 footer next to him is because he doesn’t have any friends left. Kevin Owens gets in the ring and says it’s true. But that’s fine because last week, he didn’t need anyone to hit him with that stunner and pin him 1,2, 3 in the ring. And the bottom line is he never meant to take Kofi’s opportunity. But at Fastlane, it is his intention to beat him again and this time take the WWE title from him.
Rowan gets in Kevin’s face as Bryan backs up. Kevin asks him if they have a problem and hits him. Rowan runs after Owens but Owens lowers the ropes as Rowan goes to the outside. Owens goes for the stunner but Bryan pushes him off and Rowan lands a chokeslam.
Great opening segment between Daniel Bryan, Rowan and Kevin Owens. It looks like they really are pushing for Owens to be a face here. For what is pretty much a 2 week feud going into Fastlane, it could be worse. #SDLive

The Miz says tonight if Jey loses focuses, he will exploit him and beat him. He and Shane have a second chance at Fastlane and in his hometown, he will make Shane and his dad proud. Charlotte Flair is backstage. She asks if it’s just her or is Smackdown Live missing the presence of her best friend Becky Lynch. She really misses her on her crutches and her suffering because of the beating Ronda Rousey gave her. Charlotte says if she beats Becky at Fastlane, Becky is done. But if Becky wins, the Wrestlemania match becomes a triple threat. But she wants to have a friendly discussion with Becky Lynch tonight.
Not a bad match involving The Miz and Jey Uso but sort of waiting for the pay off between The Miz and Shane. If we don't get them against each other at Wrestlemania I'll be shocked. But who would (assuming Uso's retain) the Uso's go up against at Wrestlemania? #SDLive

A slow fatal four way match which got better after the commercial break. Thought R-Truth would retain at one point. Big win for Samoa Joe, he needed it. Hopefully he keeps the title for several months. #SDLive

Samoa Joe is backstage and is asked about his title. Joe says the champ is not one to come out and do dance breaks. He doesn’t love John Cena. All of his opponents will find disrespect and they will have nightmares about getting in the ring with him.
On a serious note, great promo by Samoa Joe backstage. I'd love a feud between him and Andrade. Joe needed this win and the title as he was getting in Bray Wyatt territory of losing big matches. #SDLive

I get that Bryan is a face but I agree with Randy Orton on that one. Weren't we getting the fierce AJ Styles just weeks ago? What happened to that? Also, I guess this means AJ Styles against Randy Orton at Wrestlemania. #SDLive

Everyone knows that Becky will win at Fastlane (not sure how they will pull it off) but with that said (and I'm saying this as a Becky fan), I don't want Becky to win at Wrestlemania. Have her chase the title a little longer. Similar to Lesnar and Reigns last year. #SDLive

Not a bad show at all. Great build up for Fastlane and we even got a new United States champion. What looked to be a bad card (Fastlane) just 48 hours ago is now something worth watching. #SDLive
