Backstage news, notes and producers for the 1/3 WWE SmackDown

PWInsider has published news, notes and a list of producers for the matches and segments from Friday night’s first 3-hour episode of WWE SmackDown, which took place live on the USA Network from the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

-There was said to have been a lot of late revisions to the opening segment. Originally, the segment was scheduled to open with a Kevin Owens promo that would see Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes get involved.  It was also said there was a lot of bouncing back and forth on what would best creatively for all involved. Furthermore, there was even talk of Jey Uso getting involved at one point.  This segment was produced by Shawn Daivari.

-Tiffany Stratton cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase on Nia Jax for the title change was reportedly planned for weeks and was kept a “closely guarded secret.” It was also said the title change coming was not known by many in the company. Furthermore it was noted Stratton winning the championship was planned specifically to make a big moment for the USA Network, Stratton and the show now going to 3-hours.
