PPV Predictions: WWE No Way Out 2012

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE No Way Out Edition
June 17, 2012
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to Round #10 of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season#4). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE’s No Way Out! The show will be held at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The card currently holds seven matches, with four of them title matches.

IN case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists, recappers and radio hosts at Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2013 Royal Rumble or Wrestlemania XXIX as we are unsure of the decision).

We makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to your yours posted in an upcoming PPV. You can participate by contacting me in any means under the “Dismissal” portion of this piece. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Student of the Week). We all thank you for your continued participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers. I decided to I will issue points to the Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be four championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be FOUR points. Also, if we throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

And remember (since I don’t have to sound like a broken record) I will issue prizes for the top three records (and the worst record) after the season is complete. All standings will be accumulated from the February PPVs to the end of our season.

And now the standings.

PREDICTIONS for WWE No Way Out

*** Non-Title Matches ***

YouTube Pre-Show Singles Match
Brodus Clay vs. David Otunga

Nick G. – OTUNGA.

Evan O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – OTUNGA. I am going on what I witnessed on Smackdown. Clay is on a bad wheel, and Otunga will address that like a good Harvard grad. Plus, he likes Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce. I am a fan. Thanks, Mr. Otunga.

Jason N. – BRODUS CLAY.

David S. – N/A.

Josh B. – BRODUS.

Matt O. – CLAY.

Greg M. – N/A.

Grash – BRODUS CLAY.

Darragh O. – BRODUS CLAY.

Jose M . – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Rick T. – BRODUS.

CONSENSUS: CLAY 6-2. Though Clay is playing injured, the majority of our staff did not give Otunga a good chance at winning this match.

Tuxedo Match
Santino Marella vs. Ricardo Rodriguez

Nick G. – SANTINO.

Evan O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – MARELLA. This is an easy pick. Next…

Jason N. – SANTINO.

David S. – N/A.

Josh B. – SANTINO (Yikes).

Matt O. – SANTINO.

Greg M. – N/A.

Grash – SANTINO MARELLA.

Darragh O. – SANTINO MARELLA.

Jose M . – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Rick T. – SANTINO.

CONSENSUS: MARELLA 8-0. Ricardo is there for some much-needed comic relief for the show. In the end, everyone chose the United States Champion to win the match.

Steel Cage Match
John Cena vs. The Big Show
Stipulations: If Cena wins, John Laurinaitis is fired. If The Big Show wins, John Cena is fired.

Nick G. – SHOW.

Evan O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – BIG SHOW. I am going against the “pick Cena” option because he had a happy-go-lucky promo on Raw and Smackdown. When Cena is serious, he wins. When he jokes, he loses. Cena loses, and gets a well-deserved summer vacation (until Raw’s 1000th).

Jason N. – THE BIG SLOW.

David S. – N/A.

Josh B. – BIG SHOW.

Matt O. – JOHN CENA.

Greg M. – N/A.

Grash – THE BIG SHOW.

Darragh O. – JOHN CENA.

Jose M . – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Rick T. – SHOW.

CONSENSUS: BIG SHOW 6-2. This does not bode well for John Cena. If the staff is correct, Cena will be the one that gets fired on Monday.

*** Championship Matches ***

Singles Match for the WWE Divas Championship
Layla (c) vs. Beth Phoenix

Nick G. – LAYLA.

Evan O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – PHOENIX. I am wrong, I know it. But let’s see what I picked Beth. See that “c” next to Layla’s name. I completely had a double take that she is truly the champion. Plus, I am banking on a Kharma return soon. Hey, the WWE like to give us a little twist during the summer.

Jason N. – RAYLA.

David S. – N/A.

Josh B. – BETH.

Matt O. – BETH.

Greg M. – N/A.

Grash – LAYLA.

Darragh O. – LAYLA.

Jose M . – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Rick T. – LAYLA.

CONSENSUS: LAYLA 5-3. Beth Phoenix was involved in a few squash matches since losing the Divas title, but in a close vote we believe that the champion will retain in a close battle.

Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Christian (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

Nick G. – CHRISTIAN.

Evan O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – CHRISTIAN. This title match may be the easiest. Christian can keep this feud going all summer, and that is what I expect. Give me someone with charisma, and like Rhodes go for something bigger.

Jason N. – CHRISTIAN. GOOOOO!

David S. – N/A.

Josh B. – CHRISTIAN.

Matt O. – CHRISTIAN.

Greg M. – N/A.

Grash – CHRISTIAN.

Darragh O. – CHRISTIAN.

Jose M . – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Rick T. – CHRISTIAN.

CONSENSUS: CHRISTIAN 10-0. Rhodes might be telling the story of how he added prestige to the title, but Christian will give him a reality check. Everyone on the staff predicts that Christian will win.

Singles Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Sheamus (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

Nick G. – SHEAMUS.

Evan O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – SHEAMUS. Whether his opponent would have been Jericho, Orton, Del Rio, or Ziggler I just think Sheamus is the best fit as the “Face of Smackdown”. Stay tuned for Money in the Bank next month.

Jason N. – SHEAMUS because Ziggler has too many limes.

David S. – N/A.

Josh B. – SHEAMUS.

Matt O. – SHEAMUS.

Greg M. – N/A.

Grash – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Darragh O. – SHEAMUS.

Jose M . – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Rick T. – SHEAMUS.

CONSENSUS: SHEAMUS 7-1. Ziggler was the best choice for Sheamus given the fact that many of Sheamus’ challengers are either hurt or suspended. It should be a good match, but the majority went with The Celtic Warrior to retain.

Triple Threat for the WWE World Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane

Nick G. – BRYAN.

Evan O. – N/A.

Anthony V. – CM PUNK. AJ will be the focal point to this match, don’t let anyone fool you. I won’t be surprised if any of these three win it, but when it comes to business it makes the most sense to have Punk retain.

Jason N. – My boy D-BRY cuz he in my FAVE FIVE!

David S. – N/A.

Josh B. – PUNKER.

Matt O. – DANIEL BRYAN.

Greg M. – N/A.

Grash – DANIEL BRYAN.

Darragh O. – CM PUNK.

Jose M . – N/A.

Mike T. – N/A.

Rick T. – PUNK.

CONSENSUS: PUNK AND BRYAN each got 4 (Kane got no confidence). Let’s face it, we are all waiting on who AJ will pick in this weird version of The Dating Game. Does she go with The Vegan from Washington that refuses to say “No”, The Straight-Edge Superstar who happens to be The Best in the World, or the masked man from hell that once set his family’s house on fire and who kept his father in the freezer. AJ, pick your winner.
