Pat McAfee announces his return to ESPN College GameDay

Pat McAfee kicked off the 7/24 edition of his show with a video message highlighting his time on College GameDay, before announcing that he was set to return to the booth for the upcoming season starting August 24.

McAfee would go on to discuss the circumstances around his return to the show, noting that there was a period of time in which his future with College GameDay was in question:

I ended up being a free agent, and it was a real moment of looking in the mirror and saying, ‘Am I the right person for this job?’ Obviously, The Athletic poll came out last year. I think it was like 50% of the people were like, ‘Get this guy the hell off of College GameDay.’

I’m a College GameDay fan. I enjoyed waking up on Saturday mornings and watching the show that propels us into college football Saturday and inevitably into NFL Sunday, so for those people to have a terrible morning because of me existence, it was certainly something that weighed very heavy on this here dumba– sports stooge’s heart.

In previous years, his schedule with College GameDay led to McAfee stepping away from his commentary position with WWE aside from occasional appearances, returning to the booth in January to join Michael Cole on commentary for RAW.

It is unclear as of this writing how his return to the ESPN program will affect his current role in WWE.
