Responding to questions about the Santos Escobar turn on the 11/10 edition of WWE Smackdown, PWInsider noted they were told the turn was ‘always planned’ regardless of the knee injury Mysterio sustained.
According to the report, had Mysterio not been hurt, the two would have gone directly into a series of matches at live events to build the feud further.
The WWE Hall of Famer was recently spotted in Birmingham, Alabama, which PWInsider indicated was a sign he was still there after his successful surgery.
There is still no timetable on Mysterio’s return to the ring as of time of writing.
