Staff predictions: WWE Vengeance 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Vengeance PPV
October 23, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for The Return of WWE Vengeance. The show will be held at the home of one of most successful NBA franchises in the past decade, San Antonio, Texas.

The card is currently booked to have eight matches (one wrestler will compete in two matches).

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be five championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be FIVE points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Current Wrestleview Prediction Standings (As of TNA Bound for Glory)

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

40: Mike Tedesco
39: Jose Marrero
38: Ryan Rivera; Gregory Walek
37: Dave Stephens; Jason Namako
35: Nicholas Gray; Anthony Valvo; Greg McNeish; Josh Boutwell
32: Evan O’Brien;
29: Darragh O’Connor; Matt O’Brien

The Student of the Week for WWE Vengeance will be Wade Bradford. Mr. Bradford went 8-1 this past weekend with TNA’s Bound for Glory. Even though a few others reached that score, Mr. Bradford maintained his standing as part of the tiebreaker rules.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing (max 3 disc set).
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

The Wrestleview Reader Leaderboard

I will just type out the top readers at this time. The first set of parentheses is the W/L record for WWE’s Hell in a Cell. The second parentheses are the Tie-Breaker points.

1) Jordan Benterman…………………………………………..83-46 (8-1) (39) – #1
2) Wade Bradford………………………………………………..80-49 (8-1) (37) – #2
3) Brian Czygan……………………………………………………78-51 (8-1) (39) – #3
4) Michael Fox……………………………………………………78-51 (5-4) (34)
5) Sam Newstone……………………………………………….77-52 (7-2) (40)
6) Paul Meade……………………………………………………..77-52 (5-4) (37)

The person with the most picks incorrect is currently 50-64 with 26 tiebreaker points. Therefore, I deem that score the worst.

Also to those that have participated in all the previous PPVs, keep it up. Though there are only a handful of PPVs left you can still be a Student of the Week sometime this year.

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for WWE Vengeance

(Note: As of Press time Darragh O’Connor did not provide picks and is excused. I will add them under the comments when I get them.)

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

Singles Match
Christian vs. Sheamus

Jose M. – SHEAMUS.

Ryan R. – SHEAMUS.

Dave S. – SHEAMUS.

Mike T. – CHRISTIAN – Hell, I’ll take a chance.

Gregory W. – SHEAMUS.

Jason N. – SHEAMUS.

Nicholas G. – SHAYMOOSE.

Anthony V. – SHEAMUS. I will enjoy this match, but I think if Show is not going to win the World Title and Sheamus could be next in line after winning this match.

Josh B. – SHEAMUS.

Greg M. – CHRISTIAN.

Evan O. – CHRISTIAN.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – CHRISTIAN.

Wade B. – This feud has one more PPV match after this one, and there needs to be some good back and forth between these two to keep it interesting. Sheamus can’t win every time they face each other. CHRISTIAN wins.

CONSENSUS: SHEAMUS. It was a close match, and we expect a good back and forth match between the two. The Staff leans toward “The Great White” to win a hard-fought battle over Christian.

SHEAMUS 8; Christian 5.

Singles Match
Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton

Jose M. – RANDY ORTON.

Ryan R. – RANDY ORTON.

Dave S. – RANDY ORTON.

Mike T. – RANDY ORTON.

Gregory W. – CODY RHODES.

Jason N. – CODY RHODES.

Nicholas G. – ORTON.

Anthony V. – ORTON. It’s non-title and even if it was so Orton would have won by countout or disqualification anyway. Happy for Cody, as I feel he had a great year but Orton won’t lose this match.

Josh B. – ORTON.

Greg M. – RANDY ORTON.

Evan O. – RANDY ORTON.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – ORTON.

Wade B. – The match isn’t for the title (not that Orton would go back to winning the IC title again), and Orton’s lost two PPV matches in a row. Poor Cody. He’s going to get killed. RANDY ORTON wins.

CONSENSUS: RANDY ORTON. Only one member of the staff chose Rhodes, and most may have leaned toward Orton because the match is non-title. Give this match to “The Viper”.

ORTON 11; Rhodes 2.

Tag Team Match
Triple H and CM Punk vs. The Miz and R-Truth

Jose M. – HHH AND PUNK.

Ryan R. – TRIPLE H AND PUNK.

Dave S. – TRIPLE H AND CM PUNK.

Mike T. – TRIPLE H & CM PUNK.

Gregory W. – TRIPLE H AND CM PUNK.

Jason N. – THE MIZ & R-TRUTH.

Nicholas G. – TRIPS/PUNK.

Anthony V. – TRIPLE H AND PUNK. This match can tell an amazing story. I don’t think we will see many twists in this one, just a good old-fashioned tag brawl.

Josh B. – HHH & PUNK.

Greg M. – TRIPLE H & CM PUNK.

Evan O. – CM PUNK AND TRIPLE H.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – MIZ AND TRUTH.

Wade B. – The Funkman took over and Miz/Truth immediately came back. But we haven’t seen Nash make his return yet. I think he interferes, costs HHH and Punk the match, and feuds with both of them. MIZ AND TRUTH win.

CONSENSUS: HHH and CM PUNK. After weeks of pent up frustration, the majority of the staff believe that HHH will be licking his chops at this opportunity. CM Punk appears to be here for the ride.

HHH/PUNK 10; Miz/Truth 3.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Singles Match for the WWE Divas Championship
Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Eve Torres

Jose M. – BETH PHOENIX.

Ryan R. – BETH PHOENIX (don’t care!).

Dave S. – BETH PHOENIX.

Mike T. – BETH PHOENIX.

Gregory W. – BETH PHOENIX.

Jason N. – BETH PHOENIX.

Nicholas G. – BETH FREENIX.

Anthony V. – BETH retains. I think they have something special with the Phoenix/Natalya alliance. It would be a pity if she dropped the belt on Sunday.

Josh B. – BETH.

Greg M. – BETH PHOENIX.

Evan O. – BETH PHOENIX.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – BETH PHOENIX.

Wade B. – Beth just won the title, and the musclebabes need to hang onto it for awhile to build their credibility. BETH PHEONIX retains, and probably injures Eve in order to fire up Kelly. By the way, are these the only four women who exist in the WWE anymore? Kharma having to leave really screwed up this division’s booking.

CONSENSUS: BETH PHOENIX. Eve may have some talent and can give the champion a good fight, but according to the Wrestleview Staff there is “no chance” that Eve wins this championship off of “The Glamazon”.

PHOENIX 13; Torres 0.

Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Air Boom (Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne) (c’s) vs. Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler

Jose M. – DOLPH AND SWAGGER.

Ryan R. – DOLPH ZIGGLER AND SWAGGER.

Dave S. – AIR BOOM.

Mike T. – AIR BOURNE.

Gregory W. – DOLPH ZIGGLER AND JACK SWAGGER.

Jason N. – AIR BOOM.

Nicholas G. – AIR BOOM.

Anthony V. – AIR BOOM. I can’t believe I will type this, but I am very impressed with the focus some tag teams are getting in the WWE. Sure, they are all on NXT or Superstars but the division is fun again. Also, happy for a guys like Bourne to showcase his work once again. Watch last Thursday’s Superstars and you will see why.

Josh B. – ZIGGLES AND SWAGGERless.

Greg M. – ZIGGLER AND SWAGGER.

Evan O. – AIR BOOM.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – SWAGGLER.

Wade B. – That feel-good moment when Air Boom won the titles wore off quick, didn’t it? I don’t know if it’s their stupid team name or what, but I just can’t get into Bourne and Kingston as a team. Meanwhile, Ziggler and Swagger have been getting more vicious and lethal as a team each week. ZIGGLER AND SWAGGER win the tag titles.

CONSENSUS: ZIGGLER AND SWAGGER. It was a very close decision, but after much thought the majority of the staff chose the challengers to retain the Tag Titles over the latest champions.

SWAGGER/ZIGGLER 7; Kingston/Bourne 6.

Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Zack Ryder

Jose M. – ZACK RYDER.

Ryan R. – ZACK RYDER. It’s his time to shine! He deserves a championship for a little while! Woo Woo Woo! You Know It!

Dave S. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Mike T. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Gregory W. – ZACK RYDER.

Jason N. – ZACK RYDER.

Nicholas G. – ZIGGLES.

Anthony V. – ZIGGLER retains. Ziggler has held that title for a long time and most think it is time for Ziggler to drop the title. If Ryder wins it, I won’t have a problem. But it’s Zack Ryder! But hey, Santino Marella was an Intercontinental Champion a couple times, so anything can happen. Could be a darkhorse match of the night.

Josh B. – RYDER.

Greg M. – ZACK RYDER.

Evan O. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – ZIGGLER.

Wade B. – Ziggler’s not walking out of this PPV as a double champion. I think WWE’s gonna use this PPV to trade one feel-good champion for another. I mean, why would they bother putting this match on the card if there’s not going to be a title change? ZACK RYDER wins the US title.

CONSENSUS: ZACK RYDER. First off, give credit to Ziggler for doing possible double duty on a PPV. Also, we know Ryder is a very nice story about a man who started with not much and with the fan’s support he is now in a title match. Who said the WWE never listened to the fans? In the end, the Wrestleview staff is picking the upset.

RYDER 7; Ziggler 6.

Singles Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Mark Henry (c) vs. The Big Show

Jose M. – MARK HENRY.

Ryan R. – MARK HENRY.

Dave S. – MARK HENRY.

Mike T. – MARK HENRY better win – or else.

Gregory W. – MARK HENRY.

Jason N. – MARK HENRY.

Nicholas G. – HENRY.

Anthony V. – HENRY wins and retains. I was mixed on this match, but I knew Henry would keep the title. Show may win via DQ or countout, but I think in the end Henry will take out Show’s leg and then hit his finisher.

Josh B. – MIZARK.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – MARK HENRY.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – HENRY.

Wade B. – Show’s not winning the title, but Henry can’t just plow through him like he’s done with everyone else, not if they want to keep this feud interesting. There’s a really good chance this’ll be a no contest, but I’m picking BIG SHOW to win this one by DQ/Countout.

CONSENSUS: MARK HENRY. Only the Student of the Week picked The Big Show to win this match, but even he predicts that the title will not change hands. Show coming back will be a good sign, but in the end it is an easy pick. Henry appears to be the World Heavyweight Champion for a long time.

HENRY 11; Show 1.

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE World Championship
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. John Cena

Jose M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Ryan R. – JOHN CENA.

Dave S. – JOHN CENA.

Mike T. – JOHN CENA.

Gregory W. – JOHN CENA.

Jason N. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Nicholas G. – CENAR.

Anthony V. – DEL RIO retains. I don’t mind the title changes, but it just seems too much. We will never see a 7-year title reign ever again, but I am a bit tired of the weeks-long reigns since Cena beat the Miz for it a while ago. Plus, Cena never did his “I’m doubting myself” speech yet. When he doubts, he wins. He is not doubting himself this weekend.

Josh B. – ADR.

Greg M. – N/A.

Evan O. – JOHN CENA.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Matt O. – CENA.

Wade B. – This title needs some stability. Now’s the time for Del Rio to play the weasely heel, desperate to keep his title. Before the stipulation, I was all ready to go with Cena by DQ/Countout. But, since its Last Man Standing, that option is out, so I’m picking DEL RIO to win and retain the title, probably with help from Ricardo.

CONSENSUS: JOHN CENA. One of Cena’s specialty matches is the Last Man Standing match, and he found innovative ways to defeat his opponents for the 10 count (DUCT TAPE). As a wise man said “Never go against Cena”. While four chose the champion, the majority predicts that Cena will once again be a World Champion.

DEL RIO 7; Cena 5.
