Here are some of the highlights of Tammy’s exclusive interview, provided by The Mayhem’s official correspondent, Paterson From New Jersey:
It has taken nearly a decade for one of the most-recognizable females in the history of professional wrestling to grace The Mayhem squared circle, but wait no more Mayhem Nation! Tammy “Sunny” Sytch was welcomed to The Monday Night Mayhem Radio Network by The Big Mosh, Blade, “The Chairman Of The Board” Todd Vincent, along with special guest host/former WWE Head Of Security & the star of “Noonan Speaks,” Jimmy Noonan. Watch out “City Of Angels,” as your skies will indeed be “sunny” this weekend. With Tammy going to Los Angeles for WrestleReunion 4 this weekend, Mosh asked how special this weekend is going to be, not just from her, but for her fellow colleagues & friends in the industry. “It’ll be a fun weekend. It’s always fun to go out to L.A., that’s one of my favorite cities, but I really love doing conventions. I get to see fans from all over the country, plus I get to see a lot of my friends I don’t get to see a lot anymore. It’s gonna’ be a good time, and WrestleReunion has always been one of the classiest productions around in the industry, so it’s gonna’ be one hell of a weekend.”
Rumors & reports have begun to swirl about who will be inducted as part of this year’s WWE Hall Of Fame (the Class Of 2010) during WrestleMania XXVI weekend. Many fans throughout the world feel that Sunny should join such legendary females as The Fabulous Moolah & “Sensational” Sherri Martel, being the first-ever “Diva” of World Wrestling Entertainment. With her career in professional wrestling, Tammy was asked about the odds of her getting that call for the WWE Hall Of Fame. “Of course I hope it happens one day. Everybody tells me they’re positive it’ll happen on day. When it does great, if it never does, great so be it, but I think it’ll be a great honor in my career. I’ve been doing this for 20 years now, and I’ve awards left & right from everybody, but I think they would be a top honor that I would cherish forever. Hopefully it happens one day but everyone is saying it’s gonna’ happen, I don’t think I want it to happen this soon. Think about it…I’m only 37 years old. What’s there left to do after that? Let’s wait & give it some time, and let me do a little more before I retire, and then maybe induct me. But if I had a choice, I would probably pick Trish Stratus to do the induction for me.”
Jimmy asked Tammy about the current crop of Divas in the WWE & how they compare with the prior Divas, such as herself. “I started calling myself ‘the original Diva’ a couple of years ago when they started all the Diva Searches, and one girl on the roster turned into 25 girls. Think of the girls that came before me, and I’m not gonna take anything from them. You had Sherri Martel, Elizabeth, Alundra Blaze, & then all of a sudden I came along, and Vince said ‘Here’s a girl who can take a bump if she had to, she could talk on the microphone.’ I was the first one to do the photo shoots, I was the first one to have a T-Shirt. I was the first girl that could pretty much do whatever they threw at me. I think a Diva is an all-around performer as far as the women are concerned. Now they’re trying to do that with all these girls, but honestly I think there are way too many of them. I was there by myself for a little while until Terri Runnels came in, then Sable came in, and it was only the three of us so whenever we came out, it was something special. Now there’s so many of them, there’s a girl on every segment, sometimes there’s seven girls involved in one segment. I think it’s a little too much, and it’s not a special entity anymore.”
Todd Vincent asked Tammy for one male superstar & one female wrestler/diva who she would have loved to worked with during her time in World Wrestling Entertainment. “Female: Trish Stratus. She was the one person who came after me that earned my complete respect. At first, I was like ‘Here’s another girl just trying to get into our business, just like a whole mess of them that was in WCW. She really busted her butt and learned her trade & her history, so I have all the respect in the world for her. Would I want to get in the ring with her? Absolutely not.” And the one male performer she would have liked to work with in her career: “I always I would have loved to manage Ric Flair before he retired, but who knows if that’s ever gonna’ happen. I just wanted to walk the down the aisle with ‘The Nature Boy.’ I mean who wouldn’t? But other than that I would have to say Randy Orton. I would to get to ringside & do the whole managing thing with him. Managing is something the WWE does not have anymore, and I think they are losing out.”
With Bret Hart making his return to the WWE & the much-rumored Street Fight between himself & Vince McMahon at WrestleMania XXVI, fans & critics alike are embracing this as the end of the line for “The Montreal Screwjob” forever. Tammy was part of the locker room during that time 12 years ago, and she was asked about the return of “The Hitman” to the company. “When I first heard of Bret coming back, I was like, Huh? I was with him in France about a year & a half ago for about three weeks, and he told me even then that he would never in a million years go back. He hated it, hated Vince, this, that, & the other. And I wasn’t just part of the locker room, I was a part of the heat that was going on between the two of them, so I knew how much real heat there was & how much they hated each other. When I heard about the comeback I have to admit, I did turn on RAW, and watched that beginning segment with the two of them and saw the hug. I was a little shocked coming from my perspective & seeing as much as I saw back then. I was watching and thought al ot of that had to be forced, because I knew how much hatred they had for each other back then. But if everyone wants to buried the hatchet…good for them.”
The rumored plan for TNA Wrestling in the very near future is to move to Monday Nig hts & go head-to-head with the WWE for a second round/reincarnation of “The Monday Night Wars.” Tammy has her opinions on the challenge that TNA may have ahead. “Honestly, I think it would be suicide if they tried to go up against Vince McMahon.” She continued: “From what I see of TNA, it’s WCW circa 1999-2000. If people wanted to watch WCW ’99-2000, WCW would still be around…period. They are bringing all these guys with WCW angles. If it didn’t work back then, why is it going to work now? They’re forgetting about all the guys that built the company over the past few years, and they are being pushed on the back-burner. I would focus on the guys who built the company over the last couple of years. I wouldn’t put it in the hands of guys who buried a company a couple a few years ago.”
As a parting shot, have we seen the last of Sunny? “No absolutely not. I’m probably one of the busiest people on the independent scene. I work every single weekend, and there’s not a weekend I’m off. I usually go to Europe five times a year for a show, or a convention, or something. I’m absolutely not done. It seems like I’ve been in this business forever, it has been 20 years. Do I ever want to go back on the road full-time? Right now I would have to say no, because I kinda’ like having a normal life that I never had before. Let’s say Vince McMahon called me and said ‘We have this idea for you, and you do all the TV tapings & Pay-Per-Views, but you don’t go on the road.’ Absou-freaking-lutely…sign my name on the dotted line. I do miss being on TV & walking out to 30,000 people. But going to the road again…it’s hard. It’s a different hotel everyday & 300-mile drive everyday or a six-hour flight.”
