On Tuesday night’s episode of WWE Backstage on FS1, it was announced that since Sami Zayn is not able to compete, the WWE Intercontinental Championship has been vacated.
A tournament will be held to determine a new WWE Intercontinental Champion which is set to begin on this Friday night’s episode of SmackDown on FOX.
WWE has yet to announce the bracket for the tournament.
Zayn has not been appearing on WWE televison in what has been reported as due to concerns over the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
His last appearance on Friday Night SmackDown was the April 3 episode, which was final show before WrestleMania 36.
Zayn’s last title defense was at night one of WrestleMania 36, which was successful against Daniel Bryan.
