According to a new report from espn.com, Boxing Promoter Bob Arum is said to be looking into the possibility of scheduling boxing events this summer, using the WWE Performance Center in Orlando.
This comes following Florida Governor Ron DeSantis having deemed WWE an “essential business” in the state on Monday.
Arum said he will reach out to the WWE. He stated that “It’s very, very interesting, and we’re going to be in touch with them.” He also said on Tuesday that there’s a possibility to use the WWE Performance Center for events without a crowd.
He said he has discussed the possibility with Todd duBoef, the president of Top Rank. He then went on to say that he is “very close with Vince [McMahon] and the WWE”, and is not talking about doing any events “before June.”
Arum also ent on to say that having events “all depends on the entire re-opening of the country, the different states – it all comes down to the same thing – testing, adequate testing”, and that “you cannot open it [the country] and have athletes compete against each other with referees, the judges, with camera people unless you can ensure that it’s safe, and the only way you can ensure that it’s safe is with testing. It comes down to testing.”
Arum said he believes the fight will take place by the end of 2020.
