Several media outlets, including PWInsider are reporting that Canadian pro wrestler Steve Gillespie, also known as Dr. Hannibal, has passed away at the age of 56.
Gillespie was found dead in his car on Saturday, January 18. There are no other details about his death known at this time.
During the 1980’s and 1990’s, Gillespie worked in numerous promotions in Canada including, Stampede Wrestling and Canadian Rocky Mountain Wrestling.
Gillespie held the Canadian Mountain Rocky Wrestling Mid-Heavyweight Title twice and the CRMW Tag Team Titles three times with three different partners – Katana, Steve Wilde, and Eric Freeze.
He also used the gimmick of Dr. Hannibal in the Japanese Promotion Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling, occassionally tag teaming with Dr. Luther, who is currently part of the Nightmare Collective Faction in All Elite Wrestling.
When WWE came to Canada, Gillespie worked under his real name as a talent enhancement.
