To follow up on the press release issued by WWE earlier today regarding the “WWE Superstars” show airing on WGN starting this April, the show will be airing at 8:00 p.m. ET and 11:00 p.m. ET on Thursday night and will have an additional replay over the weekend. So the show won’t be going head-to-head with TNA Impact for those wondering. WWE’s deal with WGN is for two years and “Superstars” will start shortly after WrestleMania 25.
While nothing has been confirmed at this point, The Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online reports this could mark the end of the bi-weekly Smackdown tapings that were done as a cost-cutting measure as WGN is paying an undisclosed sum for broadcasting rights. Taping an additional hour for this show would require three hour tapings on both Monday and Tuesday to fill the six hours of programming for the week involving Raw, ECW, Smackdown and Superstars.
