If you missed it, HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” with host John Oliver presented a 23-minute long segment profiling WWE about the company’s use of the “independent contractor” status for wrestlers that work for the company.
Mainstream media has picked up on the story since it aired on Sunday night.
– Time: John Oliver Body Slams WWE Ahead of ‘WrestleMania’
– Newsweek: JOHN OLIVER CALLS OUT ‘A**HOLE’ WWE BOSS VINCE MCMAHON AHEAD OF WRESTLEMANIA
WWE has since issued a statement responding to the segment, which included inviting Oliver to WrestleMania 35 this Sunday night.
Wrestling personalities and former WWE talent also took to Twitter to comment.
You can view some of these responses below.
ESPN contacted me on doing a story about concussions for e60 years ago. I told them that wasn’t the story. The story was on “independent contractors”.
Congrats to @iamjohnoliver & #lastweektonite for their great piece & I hope it gets people taking.— Colt Cabana (@ColtCabana) April 1, 2019
