Mike Johnson at PWInsider is reporting that Impact Hall of Famer Abyss and Sonjay Dutt have parted ways with Impact Wrestling are said to be headed to WWE.
The report states that the departures were amicable, categorizing the company as not wanting to hold back Abyss and Dutt from “great opportunities” that both were offered.
Abyss started with TNA Wrestling in 2002 as was the longest tenured star in company history. He was inducted into the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame by James Mitchell at last year’s Bound for Glory PPV event. Abyss held several titles during his run in TNA Wrestling which included the TV and X-Division Championships.
Abyss stated in several past interviews that had offers from WWE in the mid-2000’s with speculation of a desired program with The Undertaker, but ended up sticking with TNA.
Dutt signed with then TNA Wrestling in 2003 and left the company in 2009 after he and management were unable to come to terms on a new contract. Dutt, a former held the X-Division champion, returned to the company in 2012 and then left again in 2013. He would later return in 2015 when it was on announced on May 13 of that year he would be part of Jeff Jarrett’s new upstart Global Force Wrestling promotion.
In April 2017, Impact Wrestling announced that Dutt would return to the company as a producer. He also spent time on the Impact commentary team with Josh Mathews and Don Callis and had most recently been working on the Impact creative team with Don Callis, Scott D’Amore and Jimmy Jacobs.
Konnan and Tommy Dreamer have been added to the Impact creative team as a result of Dutt’s departure from the company per the report.
