2009 WWE Draft on Monday Night Raw
April 13, 2009
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Report by: Adam Martin of WrestleView.com
– Live coverage of the 2009 WWE Draft will begin shortly.
– The show began with a video package highlighting last week’s Raw featuring the return of Batista. Announcers from all three brands then welcomed us to the show. We had an awkward moment with the ECW announce team of Josh Mathews and Matt Striker as it appeared Mathews had a bloody nose while he was speaking on camera.
– Batista was out first to kick off the show. He got on the mic and talked about how much he missed the WWE fans. Footage from four months ago was shown of Randy Orton punting Batista in the head. Batista said the worst part about being injured was having to wait to get his hands on Orton. He called out Orton to the ring. Shane McMahon instead came out and welcomed Batista back. He reminds Batista that Orton also hurt himself, his father and sister and he wants some revenge too. Triple H was out next and said everything that happened to the McMahon family was Orton trying to get to him. He said with all due respect to Batista, Orton tried to take out his wife and he wants to finish it. Triple H said he isn’t asking them he is telling them. “Excuse me!” Out comes new Raw GM Vickie Guerrero. Vickie said they will all get their chance against Orton at Backlash in the six man tag. She reminds them of the stipulation of the tag match with the WWE Championship on the line. Vickie announces that she has given Orton the night off so tonight we will have a 3 on 2 Handicap match featuring Triple H, Batista and Shane McMahon vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. If Legacy wins, no one will face Orton. If Triple H, Batista and Shane win, the person who gets the winning pinfall will face Orton on Raw next week.
– Up next: Rey Mysterio (representing Raw) will face Evan Bourne (representing ECW) to determine the first Draft pick of the night.
– WWE Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio defeated Evan Bourne. Raw gets the first Draft pick.
– Draft Pick #1 (Raw): WWE United States Champion MVP. MVP walked out and saluted the crowd in attendance with a big smile on his face.
– Up next: Kane (representing Raw) is in action.
– WWE Hall of Famer Chief Jay Strongbow was shown in the crowd.
– Kane (Raw) defeated The Brian Kendrick (Smackdown). Raw gets the #2 pick in the Draft.
– Draft Pick #2 (Raw): Big Show. Big Show walked out with a big smile on his face as Kane stared him down from the ring.
– Backstage, Vickie Guerrero announces that if Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase pin someone tonight then whoever that is will have to face all of Legacy next week on Raw. Orton was in the room trying to make things fair.
– Backstage, we have a confrontation between ECW Champion Jack Swagger and WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. Cena made fun of Swagger calling himself an “All American American.”
– A 15 Man Tri-Branded Battle Royal will be taking place tonight.
– Up next: WWE Divas tag team action.
– WWE Divas Champion Maryse, Michelle McCool & Natalya defeated WWE Women’s Champion Melina, Mickie James & Kelly Kelly (Raw). Michelle McCool pinned Mickie James. Smackdown gets the #3 Draft pick.

– Draft Pick #5 (Raw): WWE Champion Triple H. Triple H walked out with the WWE Championship on his shoulder smiling at Cena. The announcers mentioned how both WWE World Champions – John Cena and Triple H – are now on Raw.
– Edge then hit the ring and started attacking John Cena. Cena almost pulled off an Attitude Adjustment on Edge, but Edge was able to escape and head up the ramp. Both stared each other down.
– Backstage, Randy Orton is with Legacy and goes over the plan for tonight.
– Santino Marella (representing Raw) is in action next.
– Before the match, Beth Phoenix announced that if Santino Marella lost to The Great Khali then “Santina” would have to be a guest on the Khali Kiss Cam next week.
– The Great Khali (Smackdown) defeated Santino Marella (Raw). Smackdown earns the #6 Draft pick.

– The 15 Man Tri-Branded Battle Royal is up next.
– There will be two Draft picks as a result of this 15 Man Tri-Branded Battle Royal. Ricky Ortiz (ECW) was out first. Mike Knox (Raw) was eliminated. Chavo Guerrero (Smackdown) and Shad (Raw) were out next. Were not gonna get everyone covered here who was eliminated since they aren’t doing the best job of making them all noticeable.
