WWE.com reported on Monday evening that Shane McMahon remains hospitalized for “acute diverticulitis and an umbilical hernia.”
The Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online noted that this was legitimate and not part of the current storyline on Smackdown Live where Shane announced a leave of absence and was then attacked by both Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
The article notes that McMahon traveled to the Caribbean with his family and developed a “massive infection” where he was hospitalized for several days in Antigua. McMahon was then flown back to New York where he remains hospitalized undergoing treatment.
This leaves McMahon’s status for WrestleMania 34 in two weeks very much in doubt. The likely scenario was that WWE was attempting to setup a tag team match with McMahon teaming with the newly cleared Daniel Bryan against Owens and Zayn after Bryan “fired” them last week on Smackdown Live. It would appear those plans are now off.
