A video package runs highlighting Wrestlemania 27, but how tonight extreme will rule. The video package ends adding, “Nothing is too sadistic…nothing is too malicious…tonight, nothing is too extreme.”
A graphic opening hits welcoming us to WWE Extreme Rules. We go live to Tampa, Florida where a huge display of pyro goes off. Josh Mathews is the first to welcome us to the live Pay Per View tonight.
Randy Orton is out first to kick off the show.
Josh Mathews, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Booker T are currently on commentary at ringside.
Last Man Standing Match
Randy Orton vs. CM Punk w/ The Nexus
As Punk walks down the ramp with The Nexus, the Raw GM chimes in. “And I quote, Randy Orton and CM Punk must resolve their issues tonight. To ensure that happens, all members of the new Nexus are banned from ringside.”
The bell rings and here we go. Orton with some big slaps to the body of Punk. Orton with a clothesline and kick to the chest combo. Punk bails and Orton tosses him into the ring barricade. Back in the ring, Punk catches Orton with a knee to the head. Before the match started, Punk removed a pad from a corner top turnbuckle. Punk tried sending Orton into this, but Orton blocks it. Orton with a snapmare takedown and jumping knee to the head combo. Punk rolls out and pulls out a kendo stick. Punk cracks it across the chest of Orton. Punk continues to use the kendo stick over the back of Orton. Punk grabs a second kendo stick and starts beating over Orton with it back in the ring. Punk tells the referee to start the count. The referee gets to 5 and Orton is back up. Orton with uppercuts and grabs a kendo stick. Punk cuts off Orton with a spinning back kick. Punk cracks a kendo stick over the shoulder of Orton. Referee starts counting. Punk breaks up the count and executes a back suplex. Referee starts the count. Orton is up at 6, Punk attempts a springboard clothesline, but Orton catches Punk in the chest with the kendo stick. Orton continues to beat on Punk with it. Orton with big clotheslines. Punk counters a DDT through the ropes and catapults Orton face first into the exposed turnbuckle. Punk sets a chair up in a corner. Punk with his running high knee to Orton in the corner. Orton counters a GTS and sends Punk head first with force into the steel chair. The force sends Punk through the ropes to the outside. The referee starts the count. Punk is up at 7. Orton with a powerslam on Punk on the outside. Referee starts the count. Punk is up at 8. Orton starts clearing off the announcers table. Booker T adds, “Well, I better clear off my iPad.” Punk then catches Orton with a big kick to the head.
Referee starts the count. Orton is up at 8. Orton with a back suplex on Punk over the ring barricade. Referee starts the count. Orton picks up Punk at 6, tosses him in the ring and drops down starting to stalk him for an RKO. Punk counters, attempts a GTS and connects. The referee starts the count. Orton stumbles to his feet at 9. Punk with knees to the head of Orton in the corner. They do a replay trying to see if Orton stood up on his feet to break the count and he did. Punk then drops Orton on a steel chair. Punk sets up the chair, seems to attempt a russian leg sweep, but Orton jumps up and connects with the RKO. The referee starts the count. Punk is up at 9 and then Flair flops to the outside trying to recover. Orton then clotheslines him over the ring barricade into the timekeepers area. Punk counters a DDT attempt by Orton sending Orton back first into the steel ring post. The referee starts counting. Punk yells at Orton, “Stay down!” Punk puts Orton’s head inside of a chair across his throat and sends Orton into the steel ring post. Orton starts coughing trying to recover. The referee starts counting. Orton fights to his feet at 9. Punk puts Orton across the announcers table, picks him up, Orton with elbows and Orton with an RKO over the table. Punk is up at 8 when Orton rolled off. Punk is back down. Orton backs up looking for a punt, but Punk is up, lifts Orton to his shoulders and drops him off the steel steps. Punk grabs another kendo stick and says to himself closing his eyes, “Please stay down.” Orton is back up and Punk tosses him back inside the ring. Punk is up top and Orton cracks a kendo stick over his head. Orton with more shots to the back of Punk who is leaning over the corner. Orton with an RKO on Punk flying off the top turnbuckle. Orton is up. Punk stays down after the 10 count.
Winner: Randy Orton
After the match, Randy Orton holds his arms up in celebration. We then see highlights of the match leading to the finish.
We see Jerry “The King” Lawler heading to the back to get ready for his tag team match tonight.
Booker T and Josh Mathews discuss the 2011 WWE Draft. We review the stars drafted to Raw and Smackdown.
Footage is shown from Smackdown of WWE United States Champion Sheamus attacking Kofi Kingston.
Backstage, Sheamus is shown pacing and walks up to Teddy Long. Sheamus says he doesn’t like it. Long announces that Sheamus is defending his United States Championship against Kofi Kingston tonight in a Tables match. Sheamus said he isn’t upset about that, but rather upset he is defending his title against someone who isn’t even from the United States and demands to see Kingston’s birth certificate.
Backstage, we see John Morrison warming up for his match tonight.
WWE United States Championship – Tables Match
Sheamus (c) vs. Kofi Kingston
Kofi comes out with some quick offense early on. Sheamus cuts him off with a big kick. Kofi with a takedown and big rights. Kofi bails and goes for a table right away when Sheamus pushes him into the ring barricade. Sheamus puts the table Kofi got back under the ring, goes to the other side and pulls out another one. Kofi with big kicks firing back. Sheamus fights him off and gets the table setup. Kofi with uppercuts, puts Sheamus on the table, jumps up on the ring apron and Sheamus quickly rolls off. Sheamus sends Kofi with force into the ring barricade again and walks away to recover. Sheamus pulls out another table near the ramp and sets it up. Kofi counters a powerbomb attempt and Sheamus tosses him back in the ring. Sheamus is up on the ring apron near the table, Kofi with some offense, hits the ropes and Sheamus slingshots himself in hitting a shoulder block. Sheamus rolls out, grabs another table and drives it into the body of Kofi through the ropes. Sheamus puts the table over Kofi and stands on it posing. Sheamus sets up the table against the corner and sends Kofi face first into it. Sheamus picks up Kofi looking to send him through the table, but Kofi fights off and drops Sheamus dropkicking his chest. Kofi puts Sheamus up on the table, Kofi leaps, catches himself on the table on the ropes, but Sheamus lifts him up. Kofi counters off and starts kicking Sheamus in the legs. Kofi attempts a suplex over the top rope onto the table below, but Sheamus counters and big boots Kofi off the ring apron. Kofi dodges going through the table. Sheamus jumps out and tosses the table over Kofi. Back in the ring, Sheamus sets up the table near the corner and puts Kofi up top. Sheamus sits up with Kofi, puts him on his shoulder, Kofi fights back with forearm shots to the chest, Sheamus falls off, but makes Kofi pay with a big forearm shot. Kofi catches Sheamus with a Trouble in Paradise sending Sheamus to the outside. As Sheamus recovers, he turns around near the table and Kofi comes flying off the top turnbuckle with a double leg drop crashing through the table over Sheamus.

Backstage, Todd Grisham is with R-Truth. Grisham asks him what it feels to be once part of tonight’s Steel Cage main event. Truth tells Grisham to shut up and says not only is he not in the main event, he isn’t even booked on the card. He said he smells a conspiracy. Truth goes to spell conspiracy and gets as far as “C-O-N-” and Grisham starts laughing. He tells Grisham to watch it. Truth talks down John Morrison and said one thing he can’t stand is a thief.
Country Whipping Match
Jerry “The King” Lawler and Jim Ross vs. Michael Cole and Jack Swagger
Before the match, Michael Cole talked some trash about Lawler and JR wearing bubble wrap around his body. Josh Mathews mentioned that JR suffered a broken hand and is working through it. We start with Lawler and Swagger. JR slaps the back of Swagger with his whip and Lawler goes after him. Swagger quickly tags in Cole who smiles. Lawler whips Cole and he laughs saying it doesn’t hurt. JR whips Cole as well and Cole continues to laugh. Cole yells, “I’m so much smarter than you!” Lawler drops Cole with a big right hand and removes the bubble wrap. Swagger gets the tag and shoulder charges Lawler in the corner. Swagger ties Lawler’s whip to the second rope and starts kicking/stomping over him. Swagger breaks Lawler free and launches him into the corner with force. Swagger misses his corner splash. JR cheers on Lawler. Lawler with big right hands. Cole walks in and slaps the whip over his back. Lawler smiles and turns around. Swagger with a chop block and then applies the ankle lock. JR starts whipping Swagger from his corner. Swagger breaks the ankle lock. Lawler is up and gives Swagger a DDT. Tag to JR who whips the back of Swagger. JR gets the ankle lock applied on Swagger. Swagger jumps and tags in Cole. Cole says, “Uh, that wasn’t a tag.” The referee signals it was a legal tag. JR tosses Cole in the ring. JR sends Cole into the corner head first. JR gets fired up and clotheslines Cole. JR starts whipping Cole. JR slaps Swagger away. JR gets the ankle lock on Cole and Swagger jumps back in. JR low blows Swagger. JR whips Swagger. Cole with a rollup from behind on JR and gets the pinfall.
Winners: Michael Cole and Jack Swagger
A vignette airs focusing on “L.O.E. – Lack of Entertainment” promoting Over The Limit on Sunday, May 22.
Backstage, Todd Grisham is with John Cena who mentions it has been a while since he was WWE Champion. Cena says it has been since June of last year. He said he has no excuses after tonight being locked in a steel cage with The Miz and John Morrison.
A video package runs focusing on Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes.
Falls Count Anywhere Match
Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes
Mysterio with some quick offense early including a big boot and kicks to the body. Mysterio with a tilt-a-whirl head scissors on Rhodes sending him to the outside. Rhodes responds with a quick dropkick on the floor. Mysterio sends Rhodes into the HD screens at the top of the ramp. Rhodes rolls off to the floor and Mysterio with a flying splash. Rhodes fights back dropping Mysterio over a wall barricade in the crowd. Mysterio with a kick to the head of Rhodes. Both start brawling up the arena steps. Rhodes drops Mysterio’s wrist off the steel hand railing on the arena steps. They brawl into the concourse area and Mysterio tackles Rhodes into a series of garbage cans. Rhodes with a springboard kick to the face on Mysterio. Mysterio is launched up near an area to buy food. Mysterio jumps off and hits a crossbody on Rhodes. They brawl back inside the arena within the crowd. Mysterio is chasing Rhodes. Rhodes is back near ringside and Rhodes hip tosses Mysterio over the barrier on the floor below. Mysterio jumps at Rhodes and Rhodes drops him face first off the steel ring steps. Back in the ring, Mysterio with another springboard crossbody. Mysterio launches himself with a flying headbutt at the chest of Rhodes off the top rope. Rhodes counters a 619 attempt. Mysterio attempts a leg drop off the top, but Rhodes avoids it. Rhodes with an Alabama Slam on Mysterio. Rhodes puts Mysterio up on the top turnbuckle. Mysterio spits some green mist in the face of Rhodes, hits a 619 and connects with his springboard body splash. Mysterio gets the pinfall.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
After the match, we see highlights of the match leading to the finish. Back live, Rey Mysterio celebrates his win heading up the ramp.
Backstage, we see a variety of WWE Divas talking. Layla walks up and says she knows they don’t like her, but tonight might be her last night here. She wants to apologize to everyone. Beth Phoenix says she was right about no one liking her. Kelly Kelly says they aren’t a big fan of Michelle McCool either and wishes her luck.
Back live, Michael Cole is back on commentary.
“Loser Leaves WWE” No DQ Rules
Michelle McCool vs. Layla
Michelle with a cheap shot early on. Layla fights back with some big right hands. Michelle dumps Layla to the outside. Layla responds sending Michelle face first into the announcers table. Michelle then sends Layla into the table and hits a big kick to the body. Michelle tosses Layla back in the ring. Layla with a spin kick and kick to the back combo. Layla with a few chops, but Michelle with a belly-to-belly suplex. Michelle tosses Layla out of the ring, but misses a flying kick. Back in the ring, Layla rakes the eyes of Michelle. Layla with a flipping stunner off the top rope on Michelle. Michelle recovers and catches Layla with a quick kick to the chest. Michelle looks to put Layla away with a Styles Clash, but Layla counters into a reverse neckbreaker. Michelle with a kick to the head of Layla. Few counters and Michelle connects with her version of the Styles Clash. Michelle goes for the pinfall, but Layla turns Michelle over to her back and gets the pinfall.
Winner: Layla
After the match, Layla starts crying and heads up the ramp. Michelle McCool starts crying in the ring as well recovering. We then see highlights of the match leading to the finish. Back live, the crowd starts singing the goodbye song as McCool is crying. Kharma (Awesome Kong) walks out. McCool tries to leave. Kharma grabs her and drops her down with a big facebuster aka the Implant Buster. Kharma starts laughing. Backstage, we see other WWE Divas looking on quietly.

Backstage, Ricardo Rodriguez is warming up his voice to announce Alberto Del Rio as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
A video package runs focusing on Edge’s retirement giving up the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the new match taking place tonight for the vacant title in a Ladder match – Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship – Ladder Match
Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian
Del Rio with some big kicks and a kick to the head early on. Christian drops Del Rio with a shoulder block. Christian with a quick back body drop and spinning shoulder block. Del Rio works over Christian on the outside. Christian rolls under the ring. Del Rio grabs a ladder. Christian cames out the other side, rolls in the ring and dropkicks the ladder into Del Rio through the ropes. Christian grabs a ladder and sets it up under the title. Christian climbs up and Del Rio quickly pulls him down. Del Rio with a kick to the back of the head. Del Rio follows that up with a dropkick to the face of Christian. Del Rio stays on Christian and drops him off the steel ring steps. Del Rio drapes a ladder across the ring apron and announcers table. Christian dodges being suplexed over it and Del Rio pushes him back into the steel steps. Del Rio again follows that up with a few kicks to the body. Christian is going up top, Del Rio pushes him off, Christian catches himself on a ladder, jumps off and catches Del Rio with a splash. Christian sets up a smaller ladder under the belt and is climbing. Del Rio quickly jumps in and pulls him off with force. Del Rio drops Christian’s head off the ladder. Christian and Del Rio attempt finishers. Christian then ends up launcing Del Rio over a ladder setup in the corner. Christian knocks Del Rio off the ring apron using a ladder. Christian sets up the ladder under the title, climbs up and Del Rio launches a ladder at his break to stop him. Del Rio sets up a small ladder next to Christian’s, grabs his arm and drops his knees off Christian’s arm/shoulder on the way down. Del Rio works over Christian’s left arm wrenching it back with force. Del Rio tosses Christian back first into a ladder. Christian trips up Del Rio sending him face first into the ladder.
Christian sets up the big ladder again, climbs up, Del Rio is close behind, Del Rio attempts a powerbomb, but Christian with a huricanrana sending Del Rio to the ring apron. Del Rio attempts a suplex on Christian to the ladder over the ring apron/announcers table, but Christian counters giving Del Rio a back body drop back into the ring back first over another ladder. Christian is up top holding the big ladder. Del Rio jumps up catching him with a kick and Christian falls off over the ladder. Christian is down and Del Rio is climbing up a small ladder under the title. Christian pushes it over, but Del Rio catches him with a kick and quick body splash. Del Rio baseball slide kicks Christian out of the ring. Ricardo has a chair and hands it to Del Rio. Del Rio puts Christian’s arm inside, but Christian counters sending Del Rio into the steel ring post. Christian is back in the ring getting fired up. Christian calls for a Spear. Christian with a huge Spear on Del Rio. Huge pop for that. Christian has the big ladder setup and is climbing. Del Rio walks under the ladder, pulls Christian’s legs through and Christian is stuck. Del Rio with big right hands. Christian is hanging through the hole in the ladder near a step. Del Rio gets close to the title, reaches and Christian pushes the ladder over as Del Rio crashes in the corner. Christian picks up a small step ladder and Del Rio kicks it back at Christian. Christian rolls out to the ladder across the ring apron and announcers table. Del Rio goes up top, jumps, Christian moves and Del Rio crashes through the ladder getting his arm stuck on his way down inside the ladder. That looked nasty. We see a replay and Del Rio hit the ladder at a weird angle. Back in the ring, Christian is setting up a ladder under the title.
Christian is climbing up, reaches and Brodus Clay slides in. Brodus moves the ladder, Christian is hanging on to the wire, drops down and then pushes Brodus into a ladder. Christian uses the small step ladder to hit Brodus who goes flying out of the ring to the outside. Del Rio then dropkicks Christian and applies the armbar using the small step ladder. Christian taps out, but it doesn’t matter under the stipulation. Del Rio breaks up the submission and looks up smiling. Del Rio moves the big ladder under the title, starts climbing, reaches up and we see Edge inside a Jeep at ringside. He honks the horn to distract Del Rio. Christian pushes the ladder over and Del Rio falls off crashing into Brodus Clay. Edge cheers on Christian. Christian climbs up and grabs the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Winner and NEW WWE World Heavyweight Champion: Christian
After the match, Christian holds the title close getting emotional and holds it up high. Edge is looking down below cheering him on smiling. Christian slides down and both Edge and Christian hug. Edge holds up Christian’s arm as they hug once more. We see highlights of the match leading to the finish including Edge’s ringside reaction to Christian winning. Back live, Christian holds up the WWE World Heavyweight Championship getting a big reaction from the crowd in Tampa.
We see video of Randy Orton at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.
Backstage, Alex Riley talks about the high chances of The Miz losing tonight. Miz gets mad. Riley tries to say his catchphrase, but Miz cuts him off.
Back live, we see Lumberjacks around the ring.
WWE Tag Team Championships – Lumberjack Match
Kane and Big Show (c’s) vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson
We start with Big Show and Wade Barrett. Big Show with big chest chops to Barrett early on. Kane with the tag and a kick to the face early on. Kane with a big side slam on Barrett. Barrett fights back tossing Kane out and the lumberjacks go to work. Big Show clears a path on the outside to assist Kane. Ezekiel Jackson gets the tag and levels Kane. Jackson with big right hands in the corner and a clothesline. Tag to Barrett who starts stomping over Kane. Kane and Jackson with a double clothesline. Tag to Big Show who drops Barrett with big clotheslines. Jackson pulls the top rope down when Big Show hits the ropes as he tags himself in. The lumberjacks go after Big Show and power him back in. Jackson with a body slam on Big Show. Huge crowd reaction for this. Barrett tags himself in and Big Show hits a chokeslam for the win.
Winners and still WWE Tag Team Champions: Kane and Big Show
After the match, Ezekiel Jackson looks on with a disappointed look. He walks off to the back as the lumberjacks start brawling.
Back live, the steel cage is starting to lower around the ring.
WWE Championship – Steel Cage, Triple Threat Match
The Miz (c) vs. John Cena vs. John Morrison
The Miz tries to escape right away as Cena and Morrison pull him down. Cena and Morrison drop Cena on his face. Morrison with a quick rollup on Cena and then a series of high impact moves. Miz then drops Morrison with a big clothesline. Miz sends Cena face first into the side of the cage. Miz does the same to Morrison. Cena with a quick suplex on Miz and Morrison with a russian leg sweep on Cena. Miz is trying to climb up when Morrison catches up to him. Miz drops down and drops Morrison over the top rope. Miz is back up climbing. Miz with right hands to Cena who jumps up. Cena with a bulldog on Miz off the top rope. Cena with the Five Knuckle Shuffle on Morrison. Miz with the Skull Crushing Finale on Cena. Morrison is climbing up and almost over the top. Miz cuts him off and climbs up top. Morrison is holding onto Miz to prevent him from going over. Morrison and Miz are now sitting up top exchanging right hands. Morrison is pulling Miz back over the top into the ring. Cena is now up with Morrison. Cena and Morrison with a double suplex on Miz. Miz landed really badly on his neck there. Morrison with his flipping facebuster on Cena. Miz is back up and Morrison catches him with a kick. Miz appears to be okay. Morrison is climbing up the cage when Miz pulls him down to his shoulders and powerbombs him into the side of the cage. Cena with an STF on Miz. Miz pulls himself towards the door yelling at the referee to open it up. Cena breaks the hold. Miz is out, but Cena pulls him back in. Cena tries to crawl out and Miz pulls him back in. Cena with a big flipping powerbomb plant on Miz. Morrison springboards himself up the cage and to the top. Cena quickly jumps up. Morrison with right hands to Cena. Miz is trying to crawl out under them through the door. Morrison drops down and closes the cage door into Miz’s face.
Cena then drops Morrison and Morrison crotches himself on the door. Miz pulls Morrison back in. Cena with a monkey flip on Morrison. Miz with a big DDT on Cena. Miz with a big boot to the face of Cena. Miz with another boot to Cena. Miz puts Cena’s face into the side of the cage. Morrison is climbing back up. Miz turns around and goes after him. Morrison is hanging from the cage. Miz has a hold of him and pulls him back over the top. Miz is now turning over the top. Morrison springboards back up and pulls Miz back over. Morrison tosses Miz back down to the ring. Cena is now up with Morrison. Morrison kicks him away. Morrison has his legs up top and flips back with a Starship Pain. Morrison is crawling over to the door. He opens the door and R-Truth runs out slamming the door in his face. Truth walks in and closes the door. Truth starts attacking Morrison. Truth with an Axe Kick on Cena. Truth climbs up to the top of the cage and jumps out. All three men are down. Miz is up first. Miz starts climbing up the cage. Miz is over the top. Cena pops up and is climbing up. Cena grabs Miz by the arm/shoulder. Miz is now hanging off the side. Miz is trying to kick off the cage to fight free. Cena grabs Miz and pulls him over more. Cena and Miz are now both sitting up top. Both start exchanging right hands. Both slide back down to the top rope. Miz has Cena hooked for a Skull Crushing Finale. Cena breaks it up, has Miz on his shoulders and connects with the Attitude Adjustment off the top rope. Cena hooks the leg and gets the pinfall.
Winner and NEW WWE Champion: John Cena
After the match, John Cena holds up the WWE Championship high inside the Steel Cage. We then see highlights during the match including R-Truth’s attack on John Morrison and the finish of Cena hitting the Attitude Adjustment off the top rope on Miz to get the win. Back live, Cena is sitting up top the steel cage with the WWE Championship. Cena gives a salute to the camera and then climbs back down. The PPV goes off the air with Cena looking at the camera saying, “I’m back! I’m back! The champ…is…here!”
