From the Desk of Mr. V #93

By: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com
Introduction (By: Paul Rossi)
First, from Mr. Rossi
In this corner, he hails from the Steel City, Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania. He is a columnist for Wrestleview. He is THE MAN, THE MYTH, AND THE LEGENDARY ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOTHNY “MR. V” VAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Welcome to the latest edition of “From the Desk of Mr. V”. I am Anthony “Mr. V” Valvo, your WrestleView resident teacher with the same material as last time, but different names, matches, and articles.
Also, because of my friend Travis Thomas’ (the man that introduced me to the WrestleView website) request, I must include the word “Ravishing” at least seven times in my column. Since he is one of my best friends, I will accept this. Students, if you find “ravishing” all seven times in my column, e-mail me and I will give you a Gold Star in my next installment.
In this week’s lecture, I will review some good and bad moments from TNA’s Bound for Glory and go over what in the world is going on with the commentary teams in the WWE.
So sit back and grab some coffee, a hot cup of ravishing apple cider, or whatever your choice of beverage may be this week. Relax as you read the 93rd Installment of “From the Desk of Mr. V”.
Countdown to Mr. V #100…49 Days!
Quote of the Week
(By: Tito Brealey)
“Be the change you wish to see in the world” β Gandhi
Reason behind it is because personally I have been getting really stressed with the way people have been being with me and my friends and feel if some just heeded the saying then maybe the world would be a better place …. I would really love it of you could include it in your column … But if not I’ll enjoy reading it nevertheless π many thanks π
It is an amazing quote from one of my inspirations about changing only for one. Not by the people surrounding the world.
Teacher’s Lecture
**The following lecture will be mainly about an independent wrestling company that is nearby my hometown. I hope you read this portion as I think this card is quite intriguing.**
1) Have you heard of the IWC?
I am not talking about the International (or Internet) Wrestling Community. I am talking about an Independent Wrestling company from my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Well, actually it is near the Mon Valley (Their Wrestling School is in Jefferson Hills). This company once had the likes of CM Punk, Colt Cabana, Chris Sabin, Kaval, Balls Mahoney, Necro Butcher, AJ Styles, Jerry Lynn, Tommy Dreamer, and so many more that went on to become household names and world champions. Heck, I know that many that read my column looked at the PWI 500 and you see that Styles and Punk are in the top three. They had to start somewhere. How about a small company called the International Wrestling Cartel (or IWC).
Before I typed this piece, I did not really know much about it. However when I saw this video on their Facebook page it really interested me as a wrestling fan.
Just to let my readers know, I did get authorization to use this clip because now I really respect this promotion.
The match featured is the main event to IWC’s “Winner Take All” show that will take place on November 20, 2010 at Elizabeth, PA (a mere minutes away from my hometown of Clairton, PA). The main event looks to be unique and something I have never seen in a long time, if not ever since I started following professional wrestling. It is a Career vs. Career/Last Man Standing Match for the IWC World Heavyweight Championship between “Deeeeeeeeeelicious” Jimmy DeMarco and John McChesney. The current champion is DeMarco.
Here is a video hyping up their upcoming match. In my opinion, I found them to do a better job than many pro wrestlers that we see on mainstream television.
From listening to various promos of DeMarco, he shows a heck of a lot of passion and excitement. He can talk real well and from the matches that I watched during the week, I thought he was pretty good in the ring as well. McChesney has been around the block as well. He appeared on WWE programming from time to time. The promos on this video are impressive, but that video hyping up this show is brilliant.
To people who read the PWI 500 this year, both names do appear in the magazine. DeMarco was ranked 322nd (ahead of some guys like Husky Harris and Michael Tarver) and McChesney was ranked 398th (ahead of Colin Delaney and Eli Cottonwood). I am not trying to be all marky when I type this out, but even though we do poke fun at the bigger names on this list I think to have some of these guys who are fighting in my backyard get ranked in this magazine is actually pretty awesome.
I read the results from previous cards and what impresses me is that they have had a very long feud. And the opponents that they faced on the previous IWC Card (College Fight Fest Vol. 1) were not slouches either. DeMarco defeated a man who is featured on ROH on HDNet in Rhett Titus (who is in line for a push with ROH right now). McChesney lost his 8-man tag team against Team War Machine (Dennis Gregory, Jimmy Vega$, Justin Idol, and Dean Radford).
In the end, the table is set for what appears to be the end of a bitter rivalry between one-time friends turned archrivals. Usually, I am just staying home, watching WWE, TNA, and ROH, but this card that IWC has provided and from reading and comprehending the stories that they put in the ring has me really interested in seeing this show pending my schedule.
One match that really caught my eye was the match right under the Career vs. Career match. It was a Champion vs. Champion contest between Shiima Xion, the IWC Super Indy Champion vs. Roderick Strong, the Ring of Honor World Champion. I know Strong is actually one of the best wrestlers when working on the back of an opponent, but Xion is very athletic had and hold his own with anyone.
Other wrestlers appearing on this card will be Logan Shulo, Irish Airborne, Dean Radford, Flippin Ain’t Easy, Aeroform, and so many more. To look at the rest of the card, please check out www.iwcwrestling.com. Also, look at their history. They have a lot of prestige and a lot of big names past and present have entered their ring. I will honestly say that if my schedule permits (depends on if I work over the weekend), I would love to attend this show.
To my readers that don’t follow Independent wrestling, my apologies. But when I saw this stipulation and the video hyping up this match on my Facebook page, I found it very well done and to add that this is all taking place in my area that adds more to it.
Let’s continue with the lecture…
2) Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker?
Ok, ok, ok, ok, ok. We can stop the rumors now. I had a couple of my readers ask me “was the tension real or are they going to have a match? I will just narrow it down with a couple simple answers.
Is there spat legit? If you want to call it one in which they stared down, then sure I think it was not scripted. I don’t know about any bitterness, but I am sure during their days there was something. What I found laughable was a report saying that Lesnar vs. Undertaker was planned for WrestleMania.
Thank You Dana White for saying up front that it would never happen as long as Lesnar is under contract with the Ravishing UFC.
So there you have it. It will never happen. 0% chance for this upcoming WrestleMania. Now you can go to the next topic.
Well that wraps up my lecture, stay tuned for detentions.
Any Questions?
This is a new topic of mine. Since I am no longer the Ravishing ROH on HDNet Recapper for powers that I could not control, I decided to add another feature to the column. I looked on my Facebook Wall and saw a few things from my readers and I will do my best to provide some thoughts on them. Remember, if not for students there would be no teachers. I see a hand up…
Dear Mr V, please let this Nexus and John Cena crap end soon. I would rather just see an out of nowhere heel turn by Cena then watch what’s going on now. Also please let someone beat the crap out of Michael Cole so we don’t have to hear him cry about Bryan Danielson. Also, please let the Miz get beat up or even create a tag team with him and A Rye and let them win the tag titles. I just hope I am not the only one that hopes this mess will end soon. Thank you very much. (From: Jerry Rivers)
Jerry, thank you for the post.
I am sorry that I may have to disagree with you on the whole Cena/Nexus storyline. Though it has been bad at times, I am finding this story to be very good. I have a feeling very soon that this will all end (from what I read at least a couple more months after Survivor Series). In the meantime, it looks obvious that Monday Night Raw will have a new champion and Orton will be chasing that title. But where does that put Cena if he does in fact hand Wade Barrett the WWE Title and then leaves Nexus? Those elements to me really make this entertaining.
As for Michael Cole, I am with you. Let him cry about Bryan Danielson all he wants, because the only reason why Cole is even heeling it up is because of Danielson. If not for “Daniel Bryan”, then Michael Cole would be that same clichΓ©-throwing-vintage spewing announcer.
And in regards to The Miz and Alex Riley, this is very confusing. A couple months ago, The Miz was at the top of the world winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and holding onto the United States Championship. He lost the belt, and in my opinion he needed to lose the belt. But I thought after that he was destined for better things. While he still has the case, he seems to lose a bit of steam. Now if he formed a tag team with Riley and challenged for the WWE Tag Titles? That would mean the world to Riley, but I think it would be a demotion for Miz because right now he needs to be in that main event status and time is ticking really fast for that to happen.
I’m left speechless…..Santino Marella pinned Sheamus….who did Sheamus piss off backstage? lol What’s going to happen next? Chavo Guerrero is going to pin Randy Orton? Like seriously what’s WWE thinking? O and Detention to The Miz for “Monday Right Raw” (From: Enzo Mendicino, NXT Recapper)
Thanks for the post, Enzo.
I am shocked to had seen Marella pin Sheamus as well, but don’t write too much about it. Sheamus needs a small break from the main event lineup. A lot of people are shocked that Sheamus lost, but it was booked as a fluke and I expect next week or the week after that Sheamus gets a win.
Chavo pinning Orton? Unlikely. Now the Swagger Soaring Eagle pinning Orton and becoming WWE Champion? That would be ravishing.
I can’t put The Miz in detention for messing up a line. I think in front of a huge audience on live TV, there is pressure. Maybe Miz got caught up in the moment, so I will let that pass. If it was on Smackdown where they can edit, it would be a different story.
This next one was a long e-mail from Wade Bradford, I will keep it brief, but here was a snippet.
I’d like to nominate Mike Tenay for Eternal Detention (or at least detention) until further notice. I’m guessing on Impact he’s supposed to be “the voice of the TNA fans”, but how can that be true if a majority of the fans, especially the ones listening to him at home, think he’s one of the worst things in wrestling these days? Last week’s Impact is a prime example. For one reason or another, who knows why, Tenay all of a sudden starts accusing Taz of being aligned with Hogan and company and goes into “investigative reporter mode”. He completely ignored half the show to ask Taz the same question 100 times. I’m sure everyone at home was thanking Taz the couple dozen times he told Tenay “I’m trying to call a match here. Y’know, there is a show going on.” But that didn’t stop Tenay. He just kept right on going, asking the hard-hitting questions nobody at home wanted answered. By the way, when did Taz becoming aligned with Hogan start as a storyline? (From: Wade Bradford)
Thanks for the e-mail, Wade.
Eternal Detention? Eh, sure why not! Seriously since Hogan and Bischoff took over Tenay has been even worse than Don West (yes, I went there). He has gone from someone that went move-for-move and kept it lively to a guy who just reads advertisements and goes over things that are ridiculous. Now confronting Taz may have been something in the script, but that stuff should have been saved for Reaction or a different segment.
What you may not have mentioned was when he stared down Jeff Jarrett. I mean, you know? That stare? How hilarious was that? Honestly, I wanted to see Jeff Jarrett grab him and dump him over the barricade the way of Samoa Joe (what have they done to him?). So, yeah…he will be there until he calls a match without asking stupid questions.
Stay tuned for DETENTIONS!
Detentions
HDNet β This is obviously easy. After months and months of HDNet allowing YouTuber ROHBrazil to upload ROH on HDNet because many people just don’t get the show, HDNet officials told him to remove everything and never upload ROH again. I understand that HDNet wants it to be exclusive but in my opinion it hurts ROH because they are not getting free international exposure. This is HDNet doing business (understandably so), and it is a shame. Should they go to Eternal Detention? I don’t know. That Students, is not ravishing!
WWE β They get one for awarding a championship to David Otunga before they awarded one to Evan Bourne, Yoshi Tatsu, actually…it seems like this is all I can think of. Too many former champions in the WWE.
Shore β This TNA gimmick is just not working. No one in Orlando cares, and I am sure not one that watches TV cares either. I feel bad for Robbie E and Cookie though. Both are accomplished wrestlers in the Indies.
Mark Cuban β For being in charge of HDNet.
Michael Cole β Sorry Cole Miners, but he is not as funny as he was before. He is just downright annoying. Again, I regretfully agree that he is now the “Voice of the WWE”, but for seven hours of programming? I can only blame the economy for the lack of WWE coherent announcers.
Mike Tenay β Your inability to call a match recently makes Michael Cole remotely enjoyable. Seriously, we have three Michaels doing commentary in professional wrestling (Tenay, Cole, and Hogewood). Out of all of them, it is bad to say but I think Mike Hogewood is the best commentator out of the three. SLAP THE PORPOISE!!!!!!!!!! Mike Tenay, you are going to Detention!
Oh, and to Mike Tedesco, your first name is Mike, right? You can apply to be a commentator and they will hire you by principle.

Mr. V’s Weekly Honor Roll for the week of October 18, 2010 β October 24, 2010
10/18 – Graded WWE Monday Night Raw Matches
10/19 – Graded WWE NXT Matches
10/20 – Column Writing. After that, I watched ROH on YouTube and recap the show.
10/21 – Graded WWE Superstars and TNA Impact Matches.
10/22 – Graded Smackdown Matches
10/23 – OFF DAY
10/24 β OFF DAY
No explanations this week. The column is long as it is.
Distinguished Honors β Davey Richards vs. Tyler Black, ROH on HDNet, October 18.
How it ended β After a 26-minute battle and hitting numerous finishing moves, Davey Richards applied the Cloverleaf submission hold on Tyler Black and Black tapped out. If you have not known already, this was Black’s last HDNet match as now he is in FCW (WWE’s Developmental Territory).
Grade: A. (A rare feat in my grade book, may I add)
Distinguished Honors β Randy Orton vs. Kane, Friday Night Smackdown, October 22.
How it ended β After a very impressive main event on Smackdown, Randy Orton finished Kane off with an RKO right after Kane had a brief distraction from The Undertaker (by way of the bell/gong sound).
Grade: B.
Honors β Edge vs. CM Punk, Friday Night Smackdown, October 22.
How it ended β In one of those Bragging Rights matches between SD (Edge) and Raw (Punk), Edge won the match thanks to Raw members Miz and Alex Riley attacking him from behind. After the finish, it seemed like every member on the Bragging Rights Elimination Tag Team Match (except for R-Truth because of his travel issue with Canada) hit a signature move.
Grade: B (leaned toward a B-).

Current Predictions from the Faculty Standings
Note: This is the honest truth I omitted a ballot by mistake from a WrestleView fan, and go figure his ballot was a perfect 5-0 record. Since I told Ricky Langston (who was a Student of the Week) he retained with a 4-1 record by mistake he is in as well as Pat Lorang (The WV Student with a 5-0 pick record for Bragging Rights. This should be a prime example that one should check their work.
2010-2011 Season (As of WWE’s Bragging Rights)
1) Josh Boutwell (Viva La Raza and TNA Recapper)……………….78-48 (1-4)

13) Joe Baiamonte (Baiamonte’s Casa/2009 WV Champ)………24-20 (NR)
14) Enzo Mendicino (WWE NXT Recapper)…………………………………..6-7 (3-2)
I did not include Cena/Otunga vs. Rhodes/McIntyre and Goldust vs. Ted DiBiase, Jr. because they were not announced until I finished the article.
Two of the Students of the Week were defeated. Paul Meade and Rocky Junior each got a 3-2 record.
The WrestleView Students averaged out 2.8 wins. Based on estimation, I rounded it to be 3-2.
The Students of the Week for TNA’s Turning Point will be Pat Lorang and Ricky Langston.
Mr. V’s Gold Star Segment
Gold Stars brought to you by: ColtMerch.com! Take a look at Colt Cabana’s merchandise and you won’t be disappointed
Also, while you are at it check out www.jrsbarbq.com. Jim Ross has some ravishing specials on all the BBQ Sauce you need. Now in some combos you can get a Free JR’s BBQ T-Shirt and even an autographed Kid’s Menu (though it may not do much good). Look at his blog and maybe buy a product or two. I know I will.
Here are the following people that I think earned on this week:
Paul Rossi and Tito J. Brealey β Thank you for the introduction and quote. I needed them.
WWE Champions β They all (except for the impromptu Tag Team Championship Match) retained their respected championships. Thought Wade Barrett did win his match over Randy Orton at Bragging Right, Orton still retained.
Daniel Browne β He earned the best predictions record among the WrestleView Staff with a 4-1 record for Bragging Rights.
Pat Lorang β The WrestleView Student posted a perfect 5-0 record for Bragging Rights.
Ricky Langston β He retained his spot as a Student of the Week because of my error. I feel so dumb for missing that perfect mark by Mr. Lorang.
Josh Boutwell and David Stephens β The two of them once again are tied for the top spot with six PPVs to go before we end this 2010-2011 season of Predictions from the Faculty.
John Cena and David Otunga β NEW WWE Tag Team Champions…for only a day.
Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel β NEW WWE Tag Team Champions as of press time.
Kaitlyn β She earned it for her dead-on impression of Vickie Guerrero on this week’s NXT.
Natalya β She gets one because she truly makes every diva around her better when she is in the ring.
Naomi β I think she was the first professional wrestler to ever win while wearing a Hamburger Helper costume. I searched everywhere on the Internet and never has one wrestler won while wearing that outfit.
Joey Styles β His tweets during WWE NXT are hilarious.
The Kings of Wrestling β They defended their ROH Tag Team Championship last Monday against The Briscoes.
Josh Mathews β For stating that he does not like Hornswoggle.
Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan β Finally caught their match against each other at Bragging Rights. Also, their work on Raw last Monday was very good.
Mr. Anderson β Yes, I think he gets one because he looks to be in very good shape and injury-free. He is now a very important character in TNA and I can say now that signing Anderson up for TNA was a great idea.
Eric Young β Because TNA apparently won’t give you one.
AJ Styles β I think he earns one for being pretty good no matter who he is against and what style is brought on the card. He does go 100% and is one of the highlights in TNA.
MsChif β She earns one for being a microbiologist who happens to be one of the best women’s wrestlers in the world right now. Seriously if you have not checked out her feature on PBS’ “The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers.” I think any wrestling fan will enjoy it.
Claudio Castagnoli β For staying Very European.
Homework Assignment (The Results will be up within the week)
This week will be the highly anticipated “WrestleView Readers Create-a-Roster”. Now what I plan on doing is writing down the wrestlers that were in the most e-mails received. However, I also plan to show everyone’s work. I have been awfully busy with my ventures outside the column. It will be up soon, trust me.
Dismissal
Well, that does it for me this week. I thank you all for reading this ravishing column and I hope you enjoyed this column as much as I typed it out. If you want to get a hold of me during the week, please e-mail me at mistervwv@hotmail.com or at teacherslounge@hotmail.com, or by leaving me a message on Facebook. I do get a lot of e-mails and may not reply in a timely fashion, but I will do my best to give you a quicker reply.
Now, students you are allowed to leave the classroom. Please push in your chairs, line up straight, and exit to the closest door around you. Until next week, you are all……DISMISSED!!!!
Look for Mr. V on Facebook under Anthony J. Valvo in the Pittsburgh Network. I noticed a lot of you “like” my columns and to all those, I thank you for reading.
Mr. V FINALLY has Twitter. Follow me and my boring life at http://twitter.com/TheMisterV. I have been getting better with my tweets recently. I promise once I get to 100 followers I may do a contest every now and then.
THE TEACHER’S LOUNGE IS NOW AIRING ON SATURDAYS!
Most recent guest: Former WWE and Current Independent Wrestler Aloisia (aka Isis The Amazon)
Dave was on assignment for this interview. So Jose Marrero and I had a very crisp, polite interview with a women’s wrestler who has gotten a lot of publicity over the past few weeks. Aloisia was a class act and we thank her (if she is reading) for being a part of the show this week. Her indie work, time in the WWE, and her future plans were discussed.
But wait class! There are more guests!!
Already on the archives we interviewed Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings), Matt O’Brien (Notes from the Nosebleeds), Crystal Mai from Diva-Dirt.com, and The YouTube Sensation who had choice words to CM Punk, and ROH Wrestler Colt Cabana! For $4.99, you get all of this along with many other hours of content from the other shows on the WrestleView Radio Network.
David Stephens (That’s A Wrap and Raw recapper) and I have a weekly Internet show only on the WrestleView Radio Network. It does cost a bit of money, but we will do our best to make it worth it. If you want to be a part of the Lounge for our “E-mails” section, you may drop us a line at teacherslounge@hotmail.com. To sign up, click here.
