WWE events reportedly part of approved funding for Orlando bid

Sports Business Journal has reported that Orange County Commissioners approved millions of dollars related to Orlando’s bid to host a number of WWE and UFC events in the near future.

The commission voted to distribute $29.46 million in “tourist development tax sports incentive funds related to five requests,” including $18 million for the Greater Orlando Sports Commission to draw four future WWE and UFC events, including WrestleMania in 2031.

In addition, the report notes that up to $11 million would potentially go to Florida Citrus Sports in order to procure Camping World Stadium as a temporary home for the Jaguars NFL franchise (owned in part by AEW President Tony Khan), as EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville is set to undergo renovations.

According to Greater Orlando Sports Commission President & CEO Jason Siegel, events pursued with the funds may include “about 10 to 12 shows at both the Kia Center and Camping World Stadium,” with the commission in the process of bidding on the events and WWE in conversation with “roughly two dozen other cities on various events.”

If the bid is successful, it would see WWE bring its biggest show of the year to Orlando for the first time since 2017, when Camping World Stadium played host to WrestleMania 33.
