Fightful Select published a report on Thursday providing an update on Tony Khan and Shane McMahon following the meeting the two had this past Summer.
The report notes a source who is close to Shane said that Khan did not follow up with him (Shane), following their meeting.
During Thursday’s the Coach and Bro Live! show on YouTube, former WWE broadcaster Jonathan Coachman claims that Shane had asked Khan for equity in AEW and wanted to come in and run the entire company. Coachman went on to say that Khan has since then ‘ghosted’ McMahon.”
Fightful Select, in their report also notes that a source stated though they could not confirm if Shane actually requested equity in AEW, they did indicate Shane had expressed interest in running AEW, despite not being familiar with the product and business model. The source also added that Shane did not take being ghosted by Khan personally and Khan might have interpreted Shane’s proposal as just a joke.
Furthermore, the source noted to Fightful that Shane gave the impression his experience and leadership were valuable, given the fact that fans and those in the industry desire an alternative product to WWE.
There were not serious talks about Shane making an appearance on AEW programming or joining the company in some kind of capacity. However, some within AEW added that Khan did acknowledge the meeting with Shane took place and that Khan did not talk much about the meeting, specifying that no deal with Shane and AEW was made.
The source that is close to Shane did say that a cameo on AEW programming would not be out of the question and that a more in-depth working relationship between Khan and Shane is not likely to happen at this time.
