Drew McIntyre is set to face Gunther at SummerSlam for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, in a match that McIntyre promises will be hard-hitting.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, McIntyre addressed the three-month hiatus and how it allowed him to focus on his personal life, as well as the upcoming title bout:
“I’m excited to get a big match with [Gunther]. We were part of a triple-threat at WrestleMania, which was one of the best matches I’ve ever had, one of the funnest matches I’ve ever had.
He is a hard-hitting guy, I’m a hard-hitting guy — I guarantee you, everyone watching SummerSlam is going to feel the strikes in that match.”
The match serves as a chance for Gunther to continue a reign of dominance with the title, his 412 days and counting as champion drawing ever closer to the record-length title reign of 454 days for the Honky Tonk Man…and as a chance for McIntyre to regain a title he held nearly 14 years ago.
SummerSlam takes place on Saturday, August 5, from Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, and will air LIVE on Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network internationally.
