Mercedes Mone’ injured at NJPW Resurgence, Mone’ comments

Mercedes Mone’ has confirmed reports that she was injured during her match against AEW and ROH star Willow Nightingale at NJPW’s Resurgence event on Sunday night.

Nightingale would go on to defeat Mone’ to become the first-ever NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion.

Our own Alex Kahrs, who attended the event in person, indicated the injury seemed to occur during a spot in which Mone’ jumped from the top rope and ring post to the floor delivering a clothesline across the neck of Nightingale across the top rope. Mone’ was unable to put any weight on her right leg.

Alex confirmed (as reported by various media outlets, including F4WOnline), the match continued as Nightingale hit a powerbomb on Mone’, covering her for a pin. Mone’ did not kick out and the referee did not make the three count. The referee then signaled that Mone’ had got her shoulder up. Nightingale then dropped Mone’ with a second powerbomb to get the three count for the win.

PWInsider is reporting that the word making the rounds backtage is that Mone’ may have suffered a broken ankle.

Mone’s took to Twitter to confirm she is injured, but did not mention the extent of her injury, other than she will heal and be back better than ever.
