It is Wednesday, my dudes…you know what that means.
Pyro kicks us off before “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry comes out to the ring, microphone in hand as he looks to speak…but he’s soon met with Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin coming out to the ring as well!
Darby ends up kicking us off, saying he’s known Sammy the longest of all the pillars and liking him the most…but Sammy is least qualified to compete for the title. Sammy is seen as a follower, whereas Perry and Darby are much more equals. Darby says Jericho is holding Sammy back, but if he has a problem with that he and Jericho can come take it up with Darby and Sting. He then addresses Jack Perry, who in Darby’s mind was handpicked because of being a part of a Southern California clique. Darby was jealous of Jack at first, given his own situation, but that jealously went away…because nothing about Perry intimidates him. Nothing.
Perry speaks up, talking about the facepaint Darby wears and how he sees kids with the same paint…if only they knew who Darby really was. Perry calls Darby out on his career to this point, saying Darby only came to pro wrestling because he couldn’t make it as a skateboarder. Perry turns his attention to Sammy, who he says he respects the most…before really going in on Sammy, letting him know how he feels.
Sammy finally speaks up now, saying that Perry may hate MJF so much but in fact, he is just like Max. He talks about the first episode of Dynamite, where Darby wasn’t even in attendance and Sammy was sitting up in the seats watching Bret Hart in the ring with…Jungle Boy. Sammy says he and Darby are two sides of the same coin, and that he respects Darby for what he’s gone through to be the first pillar to earn a championship in AEW. He watched Darby win the TNT Championship and said “I’m gonna do that better”…winning it three times. There’s been a never-ending competition between Darby and Sammy, but now it’s Darby’s turn to sit back and watch Sammy become AEW World Champion!
Perry pokes fun at all this, saying that it is HE who will win the AEW World Championship…and this brings out the champ himself, MJF. MJF taunts the Pittsburgh crowd before having some fun at the expense of his fellow pillars. The other pillars are tied up in the rankings, so he talked to “notable best friend” Tony Khan and there will be a Pillars Tournament. One of them will earn a bye in the first round…MJF pulls a name out of a hat, revealing it’s Darby Allin. In round one, Sammy Guevara takes on Jack Perry, and that match…happens tonight!
MJF calls for his music to play, leaving us with the other pillars in the ring as we go to commercial!
-Commercial Break-
Back from commercial, we get a quick rundown on the Pillars Tournament (winner of Perry/Guevara faces Darby next week), and then we hit ringside where The Outcasts are on their way to the ring for our opening contest! Saraya gets into it at ringside with Britt Baker’s mom as her fellow Outcasts enter the ring, and then we get Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker stepping out to ringside…where they get blindsided by the Outcasts! The action spills to ringside before the match finally gets underway!
Tag Team Match
AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter and Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. The Outcasts (Ruby Soho and Toni Storm)
We start with Storm and Hayter trading holds before Ruby gets involved, only to be taken down with a clothesline as does Storm by the champ, who manages to fight both women back before hitting an impressive suplex! Hayter hits the ropes but is intercepted by Saraya, causing the champ to give chase on the outside…which briefly causes some trouble as Ruby catches her, but the champ fights back before taking a Terrible Towel to rally with the fans!
Hayter back in the ring as is Storm, who stops Hayer from a clothesline before taking advantage of a distraction by Ruby to hit a hip attack! Britt starts to even the odds again, but the Outcasts take her down before taunting Baker’s mom as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: The Outcasts continue the attack, focused on Hayter as they bring the champ back in the ring. Tag to Ruby now, who continues a focused assault on Hayter before taunting Baker who’s returned to the ring apron on the other side. Hayter looks to get a tag to Baker but is cut off by Ruby before the champ powers her way toward the corner…just as Storm drops Baker off the apron! Storm heads back for the tag from Ruby, looking to keep Hayter as far away from her tag partner as possible as she takes the champ down for a nearfall. The Outcasts continue their strategy as Ruby gets the tag, and uses a ref distraction to get Saraya involved as she hits some knee strikes on the champ! Storm looks firmly in control now as we come back!
Hayter manages to take Storm down long enough to make the tag to Baker, who goes on a flurry of offense before hitting a sling blade on Storm and a superkick on Ruby! Storm charges at Baker, who drops her face-first into the middle turnbuckle. The glove comes out, but Baker gets distracted by Ruby, allowing Storm to get back into it as she looks for a Storm Zero…but it gets reversed, and Baker gets a nearfall!
Chaos ensues for a moment but Baker and Hayter get one over on Toni, allowing for a nearfall before the Outcasts take control again. Saraya hits Baker with the championship belt, but it’s only enough for a nearfall for Toni Storm! Storm makes the tag to Ruby before attacking Hayter on the outside, sending her into the steel steps as Ruby goes for a superplex on Baker…who reverses before hitting a Panama Sunrise! She goes for the cover, but Ruby kicks out! Baker with a stomp on Soho now, dealing with Storm before going for the cover…and gets a nearfall! But she’s not done, as she turns Ruby over for a Lockjaw…and Ruby taps out!
Winners via submission: AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter and Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.
We head backstage, where Wardlow talks about how a Horseman was once brought out to even the odds, before bringing another Horseman to even the odds tonight…bringing out Arn Anderson! Arn talks about what was done to Wardlow recently, and what he should plan on doing in retaliation to win back the TNT Championship.
Back at ringside, The Elite head to the ring to address the recent acts of aggression by the Blackpool Combat Club. Omega talks about what they’ve done to his friends and his uncle, and what he wishes he could do to Jon Moxley as revenge for what they did. The purpose of them being out here tonight is an invitation. They wanna see BCC out here tonight in this ring…only for Bryan Danielson to speak up from the big screen, taunting the Elite for coming out to have “nothing much to say.” This turns out to be a ruse as BCC blindside the Elite from behind, leading to a brawl between the groups!
Each side takes control of the situation as the fight goes on, until BCC get the upperhand on The Elite just as Bryan Danielson comes out, calling the Elite amateurs before Don Callis tries to come out with a steel chair…only to run away when he gets called out. Bryan continues to talk down Kenny Omega, saying if he wants to sit on his potential, he needs to be gone. Danielson pulls out a screwdriver, but we see Takeshita being brought out by Callis to go after BCC! Takeshita does his best, confronted by the BCC until Kenny is able to get back to his feet. Don is in the ring now and we see Omega and Takeshita standing tall to end things!
-Commercial Break-
We’re back from commercial, and we are at ringside for our TNT Championship match! Wardlow makes his way out first, accompanied by Arn Anderson, and then the champ himself arrives accompanied by QT Marshall before this title match gets underway!
TNT Championship
Wardlow vs. TNT Champion Powerhouse Hobbs
The big men stare each other down just briefly, before Wardlow charges at Hobbs, hitting some hard shoulders in the corner until Hobbs fights back. The two trade holds before things go to the outside, where Hobbs gets sent to the barricade! The fight quickly goes deep into the crowd as Wardlow gives chase to the champ, who reverses a powerbomb to send Wardlow over the barricade. Wardlow’s quickly back to his feet though, bringing Hobbs back to ringside the hard way as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: Hobbs quickly turns things around in his favor here, sending Wardlow into the steel steps before hitting a hard uppercut. The attack continues as Hobbs brings his challenger back into the ring, climbing up top for a frog splash that gets the champ a nearfall! Hobbs stays on the attack, but is distracted enough for Wardlow to fight back before the two end up trading blows! Hobbs distracts the ref, allowing Marshall to get a cheap shot in on Wardlow before Hobbs continues the offense, bringing Wardlow to the corner as we come back!
Hobbs sets Wardlow up on the corner, looking for a superplex…but Wardlow fights it off, sending Hobbs to the canvas instead. Wardlow stands up on the top, leaping off for a senton bomb! Both men slowly getting back to their feet now, before trading punches once more…and the champ is taking control–but no! Big clothesline by Wardlow puts the challenger back on the offense, hitting two German suplexes on the champ before Hobbs starts to fight back…only to take a headbutt and a big chop from Wardlow!
We see a distraction on the apron causing Wardlow to get dropped by the now-standing Hobbs, but the champ only gets a nearfall! This makes QT mad as he gets in the ring to confront the ref…which forces Arn to come in to stand off with him, scaring Marshall out of the ring and up to the ramp…where he gets kicked by Penta, bringing him back in the ring for a DDT by Anderson! The non-competitors clear out of the ring as Hobbs finds himself looking for a second wind, but gets taken down hard by Wardlow who calls for a powerbomb symphony, opting for just one this time around…but one is enough for the pin and the win!
Winner via pinfall AND NEW TNT Champion: Wardlow
The ref raises his arm in victory, presenting the title…but the celebration is cut short as Christian Cage comes out to the stage, with a very dangerous-looking Luchasaurus standing beside him as the pair stare down the new champion.
Backstage, Renee talks to Sammy Guevara about tonight’s main event until MJF interrupts, offering something of a proposal to Sammy…a guaranteed spot in the main event of Double or Nothing, if Sammy lays down. Sammy, of course, refuses this, saying he’s gonna beat Jack Perry and go on to win the title. MJF talks down to him on this, offering him the guaranteed spot and a blank check. Sammy looks at the blank check and writes his price down…which stuns MJF, who may or may not consider it. He offers to shake hands, but as Sammy says, “friends don’t shake hands…friends hug.”
Back at ringside, Komander and Jay White are on their way out for our next match!
Jay White vs. Komander
After a moment to soak in the cheers for the match, the two men lock up before Jay goes on the attack, putting boots to the luchador as he taunts him before laying in a hard chop. Komander blocks an Irish whip, overwhelming White with a flurry of offense in the corner, before sending the Bullet Club Gold leader(?) to the outside! Komander ends up on the middle rope, looking for a moonsault…but Jay White takes him down to the floor hard as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: Jay White continues the attack on Komander, really laying it on thick as he confronts Shawn Spears at ringside, who pokes fun at White by giving low “scores” much to the chagrin of Jay, choosing to focus back on Komander as he brings the luchador back into the ring. Jay beats Komander down but only gets a set of nearfalls, before locking in a chinlock that the luchador struggles to fight out of. Komander makes it to his feet, but is sent to the corner by Jay as we come back!
Jay is still firmly in control as he lays in a couple hard chops…but Komander responds with one of his own, followed by a series of hard strikes, before hitting an arm drag and a unique pinning combination for a close nearfall! Jay gets back on the attack here, but is caught in the turnbuckle by Komander who hits a hard high kick to the face. Komander sets Jay up on the turnbuckle but gets a finger in the eye instead.
Komander sends White down before looking to walk the ropes as he is want to do…and hits a big dive on Jay White in the process! Komander sends Jay back in the ring, hitting a ropewalk shooting star press, but because of a hesitation only gets a nearfall. A springboard phoenix splash gets the same result here, and White avoids the third attempt before looking for a Blade Runner. Komander reverses it, but gets caught with a Blade Runner in the end as Jay White picks up the pin and the win!
Winner via pinfall: Jay White
After the match, Juice Robinson brings Spears to the ringside area as Bullet Club Gold attack him until Starks makes his way to the ring for the save! He heads them off, forcing them to regroup on the ramp.
Backstage, Renee starts to talk to FTR but addresses an attack that happened on Mark Briscoe. They rush to medical to check on their friend, where Jeff Jarrett and his crew are checking on him as well. Discussing a future eight-man tag match, an agreement is eventually reached where FTR will team with Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal! They shake hands as we head back to ringside, where Chris Jericho is on his way to the ring as we go to commercial.
-Commercial Break-
Back from commercial, Adam Cole makes his way to the ring for this apparent confrontation, as we see Jericho having a big ol’ smirk at the sight of Cole doing his usual thing arriving to the ring. The crowd in Pittsburgh showing their love for Cole here, something Jericho calls to attention before Cole talks about how much he studied and idolized Jericho in his early days. Cole says it’s cool to have the two of them in the ring in Pittsburgh, saying as well that he has a lot of respect for Chris Jericho.
The two shake hands, and Jericho says he appreciate the kind words, saying from the bottom of his heart that he has…absolutely zero respect for Adam Cole. In fact, he thinks Cole’s arrogant, having the audacity to interrupt Jericho’s celebration last week. He’s lucky Jericho doesn’t slap him right here, right now.
Cole says he knew this would come to this, saying that he and his friends in Pittsburgh would agree that Jericho is a bit of a jagoff recently. All this talk about looking, but when has Jericho looked in the mirror and asked “who is the real Chris Jericho?” Cole thinks the real Jericho is nothing more than a coward, saying he’s got Cole’s attention here…so now what?
Jericho denies the jagoff remark off the bat, stating Cole doesn’t impress him. You don’t want to meet your heroes, and that is true of Chris Jericho. Cole doesn’t want to meet or know Jericho, and he should leave the ring. This quickly turns physical as Jericho shoves Cole, leading to them coming to blows until JAS shows up to beat down Cole. Britt Baker rushes down the ramp to confront Jericho, pulling him away and slapping him as the Outcasts slide in the ring to blindside her!
They attack Baker as Jericho taunts Cole, handcuffing him to the bottom rope as the Outcasts force Baker to take notice. Garcia hands Jericho a kendo stick, and Cole dares him to go for it…but instead, Jericho hands the kendo stick to Saraya, who cracks it against the back of Britt Baker! Britt cries out to Cole as Saraya continues the assault, Jericho taunting him all the while. Saraya finally stops, and she and Jericho have a nice big hug as the crowd lets them know exactly what they think of all this. The JAS and Outcasts regroup on the ramp, with Jericho telling Cole he doesn’t want to know Jericho.
Video Package: Things are heating up between The Firm and the Hardyz!
Back at ringside, the JAS of Matt, Angelo, and Hager make their way to the ring for our next match. Out next are The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn, but JAS interrupt their rap as this match gets underway!
Trios Match
The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn vs. JAS (Jake Hager, Angelo Parker and Matt Menard)
Chaos ensues pretty quickly here between all six men, with JAS getting the early attack on the Acclaimed, but it ends up in favor of The Acclaimed as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: The advantage Acclaimed have falls pretty quickly as JAS take control, with Hager making the most of his strength to keep Caster at bay….but Caster is finally back in it, just as we come back!
Caster with the tag to Billy Gunn! Gun takes out JAS before going for the Famouser on Hager, who counters with a double leg takedown for a nearfall! Tag made to Bowens and Menard, as Bowens takes Daddy Magic down with a superkick…but the ref is distracted as Cool Hand takes him down with an object of some sort!
We’re told it looks like a loaded comb, but the weapon ends up being taken away by Daddy Ass who breaks the comb to Ang’s dismay…and a rolling elbow by Bowens! Acclaimed with the drop on Ang, getting the pin and the win!
Winners via pinfall: The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn
Rundown: All that’s happening on Friday and next week on Dynamite!
Back at ringside, Sammy Guevara heads to the ring gearing up for our main event before we go to commercial break!
-Commercial Break-
Back from commercial, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry makes his way to the ring as this main event is underway!
Pillars Tournament
Sammy Guevara vs. “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry
The two go at it quickly from the jump, each man getting a flurry of offense on his opponent as we see MJF watching on from backstage. Sammy hits a Spanish Fly on Perry that takes him down hard as we see Darby watching on from the rafters, but Sammy is back to his feet…as is Perry, who goes for a powerbomb from the apron! It’s blocked by Sammy and the two go toe to toe on the apron now, before Perry connects with a superkick! Up on the turnbuckle now is Perry, but Sammy catches him before both men are sent flying to the floor as we go to picture-in-picture!
Picture-in-Picture: We see Sammy slowly starting to get the advantage here as he gets back in the ring, but the action stays focused on the outside as it ends up in the crowd. Things get rough for a moment before the action finally comes back to ringside, where Sammy sends Perry back into the ring before hitting some punches and a chinlock. Perry is struggling here, slowly getting to his feet as we come back!
Guevara takes Perry down as we hear MJF backstage saying “that’s my friend!” before coming back to the action, where Perry is finally starting to really mount a comeback, much to the enjoyment of Darby from the rafters. Guevara’s back up though, sending Perry to the corner…but we find Perry coming to the outside, where he catches Sammy with a powerbomb onto the apron! Back in the ring, Perry climbs the turnbuckle to hit a big Destroyer on Sammy for the nearfall!
Jack stays on the attack before going back up to the top, but he’s cut off by Sammy this time as Guevara hits to the top himself…but Perry avoids a shooting star press! He can’t stop a cutter though, followed by an implant DDT by Guevara for a nearfall! Sammy back to his feet, bringing Perry back looking for a GTH…but Perry counters with a reverse rana! Sammy dodges an elbow strike, hitting a rana of his own…but Perry connects this time with an elbow strike! Both men are down now as the ref starts the count…and both men are to their knees before trading blows!
This ends with Perry catching Sammy with the Snare Trap! Sammy struggles, but crawls to the ropes to force a break of the hold. Perry sets Guevara up on the turnbuckle, leaving him in a tree of woe as Perry climbs up…but Sammy frees himself, hitting a dropkick that sends Perry flying through a table at ringside! Ref with the count as we see Perry barely moving, but manages to slide onto the apron…but the ref is distracted by Sammy as MJF arrives, knocking Perry out cold with the ring to keep him down for the full ten count!
Winner via countout and advancing in the Pillars Tournament: Sammy Guevara
MJF celebrates with Sammy in the ring as we get a replay of what happened, with Darby looking on with a sense of disgust as the show comes to a close.
