According to a report from Fightful Select, there were matches and angles that were changed for the 2023 Royal Rumble and the final SmackDown of 2022.
Finn Balor and WWE Hall of Famer Edge were reportedly scheduled to have a Hell in a Cell Match at the Royal Rumble. However, due to Edge’s current filming schedule for the new “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Disney Plus series, the match didn’t happen. Edge will have a recurring role in the series as Ares, the God of War. As of this writing it is unclear if Balor and Edge will have a Hell in the Cell Match at WrestleMania 39.
Raquel Rodriguez vs. Ronda Rousey for the WWE SmackDown Women’s championship was originally scheduled to take place at the Royal Rumble but was moved to the December 30, 2022 episode of SmackDown. It was said that the match was well received backstage. Just after that match, Charlotte Flair would make her surprise return, and defeat Rousey for the championship. Fightful Select notes that Rousey wanted to drop the title to Flair because she wanted to work with Shayna Baszler as a tag team.
