From ROHWrestling.com:
It has been a long time since the ROH faithful have seen, or heard, from former World Champion Jay Briscoe…
While younger brother Mark unsuccessfully took part in the World Title Tournament to fill the vacancy caused by Match Maker Nigel McGuinness having to strip Jay of the championship, the elder Briscoe brother has been sitting on the shelf, nursing that injured shoulder, which has in turn created a great deal of speculation in regards to his future with ROH.
With all of the speculation surrounding Jay Briscoe, with all of the excitement surrounding “Death Before Dishonor XI” where a new World Champion will be crowned in Philly, one fact that may have gotten lost in the shuffle is this: Jay still has the World Title belt.
ROH officials have reached out to Jay on multiple occasions over the last several months looking for the former champion to return the belt but those requests have been ignored each and every time.
Finally, late last week, Nigel himself contacted Jay directly and only then did the former champion respond…
“After months of trying to get Jay to respond,” said Nigel to ROHWrestling.com, “He finally answered the call when I contacted him directly. The specifics of that conversation will remain between me and Jay but I can tell you that on September 20th, at Death Before Dishonor, Jay Briscoe has promised that he will present the World Title to the winner of the tournament. Be it Kevin Steen, Michael Elgin, Adam Cole, or Tommaso Ciampa, Jay has told me he will be in Philadelphia to hand the title over to the new Ring of Honor World Champion!”
It’s no secret Jay Briscoe is far from happy with the fact that Nigel stripped him of the title so you won’t have to guess to hard to figure out the type of mood Jay will likely show up in when he hands over the championship belt. It will be a historic night in Philadelphia when ROH crowns a new World Champion so do not miss out on your chance to be a part of it! Tickets are on-sale now!
