Cody Rhodes defeated Kurt Angle in the main event of last night’s 8/27 Northeast Wrestling “Under the Stars” event in Wappingers Falls, New York at Wahconah Park.
Rhodes stated in a recent interview with Ring Rust Radio this week that he grew up in Atlanta and was in attendance in 1996 when Angle won the gold medal in freestyle wrestling with a broken neck adding, “I feel like Kurt Angle has always been part of my life as a fan, as a wrestler and now competing against one another.”
The main event was described as being a “shorter match than fans expected.” Also featured on the card last night was former TNA star Velvet Sky, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, the Brooklyn Brawler, Matt Hardy, former NXT talent Sami Callihan, Jeff Hardy and Japanese wrestling legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger.
