According to a report by Inside The Ropes and then PWInsider, World of Sport Wrestling is looking to relaunch. It was also said that those involved in the relaunch have already spoken with Nick Aldis and Mickie James about their involvement in the project.
In 2016, World of Sport Wrestling returned to ITV for the first time since 1985. Then after a one-off New Year’s Eve special, WOS returned in 2018 for one season with a short tour in the United Kingdom in 2019.
The reports note WOS is looking to relaunch once more, with what are said to be a number of different approaches on the table. One being an NWA-inspired broadcast model which would see the promotion run low-cost, free-to-air television shows from a studio with live events.
Aldis recently announced he would be departing the NWA in January 2023, citing creative issues and the direction Owner Billy Corgan is taking the company. In response, the NWA suspended Aldis.
Aldis signed with NWA back in 2017. His first NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title reign lasted 1,043 days, before losing it to Cody Rhodes. Mickie James is currently in a ‘Last Rodeo’ storyline with IMPACT Wrestling, in which she said this past September she will retire after her next loss. On the November 10 episode of IMPACT Wrestling, James defeated Chelsea Green, thus keeping her career alive.
