Steve "Mongo" McMichael diagnosed with ALS

A recent story in the Chicago Tribune revealed that Steve “Mongo” McMichael, 63 is suffering from the disease ALS, better known as Lou Gerhig’s Disease.

McMichael joined World Championship Wrestling in 1995 as a color commentator on Monday Nitro alongside Eric Bischoff and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.

He was diagnosed last September during a visit to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. His right and left arms were described by the Chicago Tribune as “dead”, with significant weakening in his right and left legs. It was also noted that he can no longer hold anything in his arms.

McMichael is still able to walk, but will soon be forced to be fully confined to a wheelchair. According to the article, it is believed he has lost 50-60 lbs in the last several months and now requires constant assistance from his wife, Misty, and his daughter, Macy.

McMichael is aMcMichael held the WCW United States Championship in 1997, turned heel and joined the Four Horseman. He then left WCW in February of 1999.
