Ron Read passes away at age 85

Wrestleview has learned that Ron Reed, better known as Buddy Colt, who was top heel in the  the early 1970s, passed away Friday at age 81.

Colt was one of the major players in the professional wrestling industry in the building of the Omni as the top wrestling arena in the southeastern part of the United States.

Later he became a huge star in Florida and was a top draw and headliner in the mid 1970’s. He first wrestled in Nashville as“Cowboy” Ron Reed. He also spent time in the WWWF.

Colt’s professional wrestling career ended at the young age of 39 after he crashed his private plane in Tampa, Florida that he was flying.  Gary Hart, Bobby Shane, and Mike McCord (Austin Idol) were all passengers on the plane.

Sadly, Bobby Shane did not survive the plane crash.

From the entire staff at Wrestleview, we send our thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Ron Reed.
