NPWS Internet News Update For Week Of 10/22: Former WWE Star Goldust Shined For Manville Fans This Past Weekend, Howling Halloween Hysteria This Weekend With WWE Alum The Boogeyman, More Upcoming Show Details, And More
Hello NPWS fans! This is your weekly update on what’s happened, what is happening now, and what is going to happen soon in the nation’s leading family-friendly pro wrestling promotion, National Pro Wrestling Superstars.
Upcoming Shows This Weekend
This Friday night October 26th, NPWS returns to Carteret, NJ’s Divine Mercy Parish Hall (213 Pershing Avenue, just off Washington & Roosevelt Avenues, minutes from the Turnpike), with a 7:45pm bell time.
Halloween is coming… time for ghosts and goblins and witches… as well as skeleton-faced monsters… and a worm-eating nightmare coming to get you. The fans in the Carteret, NJ area will get all that and more, as the main event will give a whole new meaning to “Monster Mash”, as standing in one corner will be the skeleton-faced and ghastly Mor-Ta-Da (a tribute character to the late former WCW star Mortis)… and standing across from him will be the only worm-eating former WWE star The Boogeyman.
Also in Carteret will be a parade of regional and local pro mat stars with monster amounts of talent, including NPWS Cruiserweight Champion “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie and NPWS Junior Heavyweight Champion “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans, along with veterans Eric Corvis and “The Cold-Hearted Playa” Danny Demanto, and local pro mat stars “The Latin Lover” Chachi, Nick Napoleon, Chris “Boom Boom” Powers, Dionett The Salsa King, and much more, including special guest manager Firefighter Joe Davis.
Plus, as it’s Halloween weekend, there will be a Halloween Costume Contest, with prizes for kids and adults.
Tickets are price at only $20 for adults and $17 for kids & seniors.
This Saturday night October 27th, NPWS returns to Long Branch, NJ’s Seashore Broadway Gym (404 Broadway, just off Route 36, minutes from the Parkway), with a 7:35pm bell time.
The fans in the Long Branch, NJ area will get an encore of the previous night’s main event in Carteret between Mor-Ta-Da and former WWE star The Boogeyman.
Also in Long Branch will be a parade of regional and local pro mat stars with monster amounts of talent, including NPWS Jersey Shore Champion “Jersey Shore Jock” Mike Dennis who will be defending his title against not just one, but two dangerous opponents who are both former champions, The Jersey Kidd and “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans.
Another rare sight in Long Branch will be an inter-gender tag-team grudge match, as popular area brother & sister tag-team Merrill “The Prodigy” Richardson & Nikki “Rich” Richardson face a scary duo indeed, veteran stars “The Cold-Hearted Playa” Danny Demanto & Alicia.
There will also be appearances by regional and local pro mat stars Eddie “Spaghetti” Franken, “The Latin Lover” Chachi, “Mr. Varsity” Jeff Noyze, Puerto Rico’s Hiram Tua, and more.
Plus, as it’s Halloween weekend, there will be a Halloween Costume Contest, with prizes for kids and adults, and much more.
Tickets are price at only $20 for adults and $17 for kids & seniors.
Tickets for this weekend’s shows are available by calling the NPWS box office at (732) 888-1704. All major charge cards are accepted, and group rates are available for groups of ten or more. Remaining seats, if any, will go on sale at the door one hour before bell time.
Results From Last Weekend
National Pro Wrestling returned to their favorite central Jersey venue, the Manville, NJ V.F.W. Hall, on Saturday night October 20th, and a solid Saturday night crowd came out to see all the action (and plenty of action there was).
Before the show, the fans got pictures and autographs with former WWE star Goldust.
The lovely Destiny was introduced as co-hostess for the evening.
The opening contest saw NPWS relative newcomer Maximum Sex Power take on luchador Manuel Manny Moore. Though Moore took the early advantage with his quickness, Power’s size and strength advantage took over for most of the match. Moore gained some momentum with a flying drop kick, but when he went for another one in the corner, Power shoved the referee in front of him, causing Moore to put on the brakes. While Moore was helping the referee out of harm’s way, Power hit a low blow on Moore then pinned him 1-2-3.
Winner: Maximus Sex Power
The second match of the evening was a six-man tag-team battle, as NPWS Cruiserweight Champion “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie & Nicky Talent & The Wrestling Matt, with manager Gigalo Joe Jones, took on the trio of The Wiz Kids (Eddie “Spaghetti” Franken & Chris “Boom Boom” Powers) & “The White Urkel” B. Fehrm. Before the match, Smoothie criticized his team’s manager for causing him previous mishaps, and ordered him to just stay outside this time and not get involved. As expected, this was a fast-moving high-flying battle. Smoothie and his teammates were able to isolate Fehrm in their corner, but Fehrm withstood the assault, superkicked Talent, and tagged in Franken, who cleaned house on Smoothie. Franken leveled Smoothie with a Tornado DDT and went for the pin, but Talent and Matt broke it up, only to be drop-kicked out of the ring by Powers and Fehrm. While Powers and Fehrm battled Talent and Matt on the outside, Franken went to the top rope to deliver a Spaghetti Neckbreaker, but Joe Jones jumped up on the ring apron and shoved Franken off. Smoothie then went to the top rope and delivered a Leg Drop Across The Delaware on Franken and got the three-count.
Winners: “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie & Nicky Talent & The Wrestling Matt
The third match of the evening was a grudge match between “The Warrior” Jack Spade” and local favorite Rich “Ice Pick” Lowinski. The two big men brawled from the get-go with neither having the advantage. Towards the end, Ice Pick leveled Spade with a powerslam, and delivered a flying splash from the top rope. But at the same time, Joe Jones& Wrestling Matt came out and distracted the referee, and J.D. Smoothie and Nicky Talent ran into the ring and leveled Ice Pick with a double DDT, and dragged Spade on top of Ice Pick. The referee turned around, saw Spade covering Ice Pick, and counted 1-2-3.
Winner: “The Warrior” Jack Spade
Ice Pick took the microphone and cried “foul”. NPWS officials agreed, and signed a rematch for NPWS’ return to Manville in late January, with the stipulation that Joe Jones is barred from ringside.
The fourth match was a rematch for the NPWS Tag-Team Titles, as the newly-crowned champions The Lords Of Rock And Roll (“Retro Rocker” Rikki Roxx & The Jersey Kidd) took on the former champions they defeated for the belts the previous weekend, The 2 Rude Dudes (“Corrupted” Corey Havoc & Rampage Rogers). Havoc and Rampage jumped Roxx and Jersey Kidd as they came through the curtain, and the match was on immediately, picking up pretty much where it left off the previous weekend. Roxx and Kidd dominated early with their quickness, but the less-experienced Roxx once again was trapped in The Dudes’ corner and double-teamed for several minutes. But the toughened Roxx withstood the assault, battled his way out of a sharpshooter submission attempt, escaped a powerbomb attempt by Rampage, and tagged in Jersey Kidd who cleaned house. Havoc and Rampage attempted a double suplex on Kidd to stop his momentum, but Roxx broke it up, and he and Kidd leveled Havoc and Rampage with a pair of Crisis Kicks, and covered them both. Rampage had his foor on the ropes, but the referee only saw Havoc covered by The Kidd and counted the double pin 1-2-3.
Winners and still NPWS Tag-Team Champions: The Lords Of Rock And Roll (“Retro Rocker” Rikki Roxx & The Jersey Kidd)
The Dudes immediately protested, and a check of the replay from NPWS’ videographer clearly showed Rampage’s foot on the ropes, but the referee insisted he had not seen it when he counted the pin of Havoc and would not reverse the decision. NPWS management instead offered The Dudes another rematch for the titles in Middletown in early November.
During intermission, former WWE star Goldust posed for pictures in the ring with the fans.
The fith match was an NPWS Hardcore Title grudge match, as the newly-crowned champion “The Cold-Hearted Playa” Danny Demanto defended his title against his long-running rival, local favorite Jeff “Cannonball” Guerrero. The two brought assorted weapons to the ring, and Cannonball attacked Demanto outside the ring right away, and the two fought all over the building, smashing each other with chairs, metal trays, Wet Floor signs, and even a metal “Yield” sign (which neither of them obviously did!). The battle finally got back to the ring as the two continued their assault on one another, with neither man willing to give ground. Demanto propped a chair in the corner, but Cannonball reversed an Irish Whip and it was Demanto whose head met the steel. Cannonball went on a flurry of offense, ending with a Cannonball Roll onto Demanto, followed by a powerslam, but still could only get a two-count. Demanto broke Cannonball’s momentum by smashing him with the Yield sign, and then hit his patented moonsault from the top rope, but Cannonball also kicked out at two. Demanto set the Yield sign onto a pair of chairs to form a makeshift table, and tried to superplex Cannonball onto it, but Cannonball reversed things and tossed Demanto into the steel structure instead. Cannonball then placed the Yield sign on the mat and attempted to superplex Demanto onto it, but Demanto threw Cannonball off him and straight onto the Yield sign, then crushed Cannonball with a flying stomp right onto his ribs and covered him for the 1-2-3.
Winner and still NPWS Hardcore Champion: “The Cold-Hearted Playa” Danny Demanto
Cannonball believed he had come so close to beating Demanto and demanded one more match with him. Demanto insisted he had already proved that Cannonball couldn’t get the job done, but agreed to meet him one-one-one one more time in Stirling in January in a Tables Match, with the stipulation that if Cannonball lost, he would retire from wrestling. Cannonball agreed.
The sixth match was a Triple-Threat Non-Title Match, as Philadelphia veteran wrestler and former J-Cup finalist Drew Blood took on NPWS Junior Heavyweight Champion “Young Gun” Mike Dennis and NPWS Jersey Shore Champion “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans. Before the match, a former NPWS title-holder of both belts, “G.Q.” Myke Quest, came out to wish all three participants well. The match was on and Oceans tried to bow out early, but was brought back in and double-teamed by Drew and Dennis. A furious three-way battle ensued, and eventually Oceans and Dennis teamed up to try and take down Drew together, but each would not let the other get the three-count. Drew took advantage of the discourse and leveled both opponents with a double clothesline and went to town on both of them. Dennis stopped Drew’s momentum with an F-5, but Oceans again would not let Dennis get the cover. Oceans leveled Dennis with his Boom-Boom-Pow finisher, but before he could cover Dennis, Drew leveled Oceans with a Shining Wizard and got the 1-2-3.
Winner: Drew Blood
Drew offered to shake Oceans’ and Dennis’ hands in a show of sportsmanship, but Oceans and Dennis attacked Drew instead. Myke Quest ran into the ring and announced that he and Oceans would meet at the next Manville show in late January in a Ladder Match, and there would be a third participant, also well-versed in Ladder Matches, former WWE and TNA star Matt Hardy!
It was time for the Main Event, as the nearly 400-pound former Nigerian Nightmares member Lucifer Darkside (filling in for the former WCW star Mortis tribute character Mor-Ta-Da who no-showed), with manager Gigalo Joe Jones, took on former WWE star Goldust. Goldust held the advantage early with his experience and wrestling holds, but Darkside asserted his youth and strength advantage and kept Goldust on the defensive later in the match. Using his experience to avoid any crushing finishers by Darkside, Goldust survived the assault, and went on a flurry of offense late in the match, finally knocking the 400-pounder off his feet to the delight of the crowd. A DDT by Goldust produced only a two-count, and Darkside then leveled Goldust with an impressive dropkick and then went to the top rope to deliver a moonsault. But Goldust rolled out of the way, and then bulldogged Darkside and covered him for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Goldust
An angry Joe Jones broke up Goldust’s victory celebration, but instantly regretted the move as Goldust threw him in the corner and planted a Shattered Dreams kick on him, sending the crowd home happy (and Joe Jones home in a*lot* of pain!).
