NWS kicked off a double-shot summer weekend on Friday night August 19th, with a return to one of their favorite Essex County, NJ venues, the Belleville Knights of Columbus Hall. Although the stormy weather kept the crowd on the light side, it was a better than expected turnout, and the crowd’s high energy made for a very exciting night of pro wrestling action.
The opening contest was the first of three big title matches, as NWS Jersey Shore Champion The Jersey Kidd defended his belt against “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie and rising NWS star Fast Eddie in a Three-WayElimination Match . The match began with Kidd and Eddie locking up; Smoothie tried several times to enter the fray, but Kidd and Eddie kept tossing him back out, until Smoothie pulled Kidd out of the ring and attacked him on the floor. The three battled inside and outside the ring. Kidd went on a flurry of offense against Smoothie, until he missed a flying splash in the corner. Smoothie saw his chance, and first took out Eddie with a low blow and a schoolboy rollup with a handful of tights, getting the the 1-2-3 and eliminating Fast Eddie. Smoothie then unloaded on The Kidd, and even went outside and got in a few extra shots on Fast Eddie who was still on the outside unable to walk back to the locker room after the low blow. Smoothie returned to the ring, bodyslammed The Kidd, and went to the top to deliver his “Leg Drop Across The Delaware” finisher, but Fast Eddie grabbed the ropes and caused Smoothie to slip and groin himself on the top turnbuckle. The Kidd hit a flying kick on Smoothie in the corner, followed by a DDT, and got the 1-2-3 pin.
Winner, and still NWS Jersey Shore Champion: The Jersey Kidd.
Danny Inferno came out to the ring, with his protege Sweet Baby James and NWS Hardcore Champion “Corrupted” Corey Havoc. Inferno claimed he was the start of the upcoming National Geograhic Channel special on pro wrestling “Slammed” (airing Wednesday night August 24th at 10pm ET), and said he was looking forward to finally retiring former WWE Hall-of-Famer “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas in their match later that night. Sweet Baby James was looking forward to locking up with Goal-Duh, and tearing apart him and his “manager” Cartman, while Corey Havoc promised that his opponent the Atomic Dog would suffer the same fate as Old Yeller. After leveling enough abuse at their opponents, the crowd, and NWS management, the trio finally left the ring.
In the second of three title matches, NWS Heavyweight Champion “Rampage” Rogers defended his title against former champion and current number-one contender Ray Ray Marz. Ray’s speed outwitted Rampage early on, to the point where Rampage considered quitting the match and taking the countout loss to keep his title. Rampage returned to the ring, and the two battled back and forth, unleashing heavy shots and getting many near falls. A flurry of offense by Marz was stopped with a knee to the gut by Rampage, who hit a pair of devastating neckbreakers and then tried to pin Ray with his feet on the ropes, which was stopped by the referee. Rampage placed Ray on the turnbuckle for a superplex attempt, but Ray fought him off and hit a flying knee to Rampage’s head, but Rampage just barely kicked out of Ray’s pin attempt. Ray went on another offensive flurry, getting more near-falls as the crowd sensed there might be a title change tonight. Ray’s offense was temporarily stopped by a boot to the head in the corner, but when Rampage went for a dropkick, he missed Ray. Ray then locked Rampage in a Sharpshooter in the middle of the ring, and it looked like Rampage was about to tap out when the bell rang signaling the end of the time limit. The fans clamored for five more minutes, but Rampage refused. Ray offered to shake hands in a show of sportsmanship, but instead Rampage grabbed Ray and leveled him with a spinning backbreaker. Commissioner Moore announced that since this match was a draw, Ray was still entitled to have a return match with a conclusive ending, and the two would meet again in Brick, NJ in early October.
Winner: None (time limit draw). “Rampage” Rogers retains the NWS Heavyweight Title.
The next match was a battle of big men, as Sweet Baby James, with his mentor Danny Inferno in his corner, took on “The Dancing Odd-It-Tee” Goal-Duh, who came out to the ring with his South Park buddy Cartman. James was used to out-weighing and out-powering his opponents, but the 400+ pound Goal-Duh tossed him around the ring like he was a Cartman doll. Danny Inferno interrupted Goal-Duh’s momentum by seizing Cartman, and James took advantage of Goal-Duh’s concern for his buddy by taking him down with some devastating kicks and working him over for the next few minutes. Goal-Duh eventually powered out of a chinlock sleeperhold by James and roared back, leveling James with powerful clotheslines and eventually hitting him butt-first in the chest, causing James to collapse in a corner. While the referee was checking on James, Inferno took advantage and snuck into the ring and leveled Goal-Duh with a Flatliner. James crawled over and covered Goal-Duh and the referee counted 1-2-3.
Winner: Sweet Baby James.
Not content with the victory, James and Inferno continued to attack the fallen Goal-Duh, with “Corrupted” Corey Havoc running in and joining the fray. The Atomic Dog ran in to try and break it up, but he was also overwhelmed by the three attackers. Then the crowd cheered as former WWE Hall of Famer “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas himself ran out from the back, and Inferno & James & Havoc retreated to the outside. Atlas was incensed by Inferno’s trash-talking and was ready to take on Inferno right then and there, but Inferno was content to wait until the main event, and he and James and Havoc finally left the ringside area.
After intermission, NWS Hardcore Champion “Corrupted” Corey Havoc took on his arch-rival as of late, The Atomic Dog, in a non-title match. The two powerhouses locked up and went back and forth for several minutes. Havoc attempted to subdue Atomic Dog with powerful chops to the chest in the corner, but that only seemed to make Dog more angry. Dog went on a flurry of his own offense with chops and punches in the corners to Havoc, but his momentum was stopped when he missed a charge to the corner and rammed his shoulder into the ringpost. Havoc took advantage and worked over Dog’s arm for the next several minutes. Dog eventually powered out of an armbar submission attempt and planted Havoc into the mat with a back suplex and a series of atomic drops. The two eventually took their fight to the outside, and the brawl spilled out of the building into the alley next to the Knights Hall. Havoc slipped out of Dog’s grasp and ran back inside the building, then Danny Inferno and Sweet Baby James held the door closed so that Dog could not get back inside. Havoc returned to the ring as the referee had no choice but to begin the count against Atomic Dog. Dog managed to slip in by another entrance, but did not reach the ring in time before the referee reached the ten-count. giving Havoc the countout victory. A furious Atomic Dog demanded a rematch with the Hardcore Title on the line the next night in Asbury Park, right next to his old hometown of Neptune, and promised to bring some of his own old friends to the ring to neutralize Havoc’s friends.
Winner (by countout): “Corrupted” Corey Havoc.
The next match was the third and final title match of the night, with The Jersey Shore Jocks, Mike Dennis & Chris D’Andrea, defending their titles against the duo of Team Casanova’s Damian Darling and “The Lounge Lizard” Nicky Benz. Mike Dennis and Nicky Benz initially locked up. Benz took down Mike with some hair-pulling, and when Mike tried to do the same, Benz’ hair turned out to be a hairpiece which flew off to the delight of the crowd. The humiliated Benz tagged in Damian, who locked up with Chris D’Andrea. As the match went back and forth, the friction that had been brewing between teammates Mike and Chris over the past couple of months came out again, as double-team move attempts by the two kept missing and resulting in one teammate getting hurt. Chris was worked over by Benz and Damian for several minutes until Chris reversed things on Benz and smashed his head into the turnbuckle. Chris angrily tagged in Mike, who went for a charge in the corner but missed. Mike was worked over by both opponents, until Damian went for a flying elbow and Mike was able to roll out of the way. Meanwhile Benz knocked Chris off the corner and onto the floor, so that when Mike went for the tag Chris was not there. An angry Mike rolled out of the ring and confronted Chris, and the two partners and life-long friends started shoving each other, and it quickly broke down into a fistfight. Meanwhile the referee had no choice but to count the champions out, and award the victory to Benz and Damian. It took the entire contingent of Security staff and referees to break up the brawl between Mike and Chris, as they continued their angry pursuit of each other all the way back to the locker room.
Winners (by countout): Damian Darling & “The Lounge Lizard” Nicky Benz. The Jersey Shore Jocks retain the NWS Tag-Team Titles.
In the Main Event of the night, Danny Inferno, with protege Sweet Baby James, took on WWE Hall of Fame alumnus “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas. Before the match started, Commissioner Gino Moore announced that Sweet Baby James was not on the contract to be at ringside, and ordered him to leave ringside or the match would be forfeited to Atlas. Atlas took the microphone and paid tribute to the brave police officers, firefighters, and soldiers defending our country as the crowd chanted “USA… USA!” Inferno and Atlas finally locked up and Atlas showed he still had his strength of old as he leveled Inferno with clotheslines and hip-tosses. An angry inferno roared back with offense of his own, but made the mistake of trying to smash Atlas’ head into the corner. The hard-headed Atlas was not affected, and proceeded to smash Inferno’s head (which was affected) into all four turnbuckles. Inferno then tried to lock Atlas in a Full-Nelson, but Atlas showed his power of old once again and powered out, head-butting Inferno and putting an armbar on him. Inferno powered Atlas into the corner, but Atlas again powered back out, but when he tried to charge at Inferno in the opposite corner, Inferno got out of the way, and Inferno began working over the stunned Atlas with knee and elbow drops, but could not hold him down for a three-count. Inferno slapped a sleeperhold on Atlas, and the referee raised Atlas’ lifeless arm once… then twice… but Atlas began to revive before the third time. Atlas powered up and began to wear down Inferno with clotheslines and a headbutt, but when Atlas charged at Inferno again, Inferno ducked out of the way and pushed Atlas into the referee, who was crushed in the corner by the charging Atlas and fell to the mat temporarily knocked out. As Atlas tried to revive the referee, Sweet Baby James came into the ring with a handful of powder and threw it in Atlas’ face. Inferno and James beat down the blinded and dazed Atlas some more, then Inferno covered Atlas as James revived the referee and helped move his hand up and down three times to count the pinfall for Inferno.
Winner: Danny Inferno.
A revived and enraged Tony Atlas seized the microphone, and demanded that his open challenge the next night in Asbury Park be a rematch with Inferno. Commissioner Moore, enraged by the events of the match, happily agreed, and announced that Inferno’s protege Sweet Baby James was banned from the building in Asbury Park. Atlas warned Inferno that now that he knew what Inferno was capable of, he would be ready for him in their rematch.
National Wrestling Superstars concluded their double-shot weekend on Saturday night August 20th on the good old Jersey Shore at a new venue, the Asbury Park, NJ V.F.W. Hall. Knowing there are plenty of other Saturday night attractions on the Shore, NWS management expected a light crowd, but the fans’ turnout exceeded their expectations, and their high energy and enthusiasm contributed to another hot night of pro wrestling action.
The show opened, appropriately enough, with an NWS Jersey Shore Title match, as the champion The Jersey Kidd defended his title against masked luchador Manuel Manny Moore. Both combatants turned up the intensity right at the opening bell, with a flurry of high-speed armdrags and hip-tosses. The action spilled to the outside and Manny seized the offense by tripping The Kidd on the apron, then threw him back in the ring and continued to wear him down. After a series of near falls, Manny locked on a Camel Clutch, but The Kidd powered out, only to be knocked down again. Manny went for a 6-1-9, but The Kidd ducked out of the way and came back with a flurry of clotheslines and kicks, but went for a charge into the corner and missed. Manny went for a neckbreaker, but The Kidd reversed it and drove Manny into the mat with a Russian Leg Sweep and held him down for the 1-2-3.
Winner, and still NWS Jersey Shore Champion: The Jersey Kidd.
Before the next match, Danny Inferno came out to the ring, with his friends the 2 Rude Dudes, NWS Hardcore Champion “Corrupted” Corey Havoc and NWS Heavyweight Champion “Rampage” Rogers. Havoc promised that he would defeat The Atomic Dog in their rematch tonight, and would not be intimidated by any hometown friends that Atomic Dog might have at ringside. Havoc then introduced Danny Inferno as the “star” of the upcoming National Georgraphic Channel special on pro wrestling (airing Wednesday night August 24th at 10pm ET). Inferno, as expected, was crowing over his victory over WWE Hall-of-Fame alumnus “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas the previous night, and promised to repeat tonight, and it didn’t matter that Atlas had some guy named “Mr. Asbury Park” Alex Pinnix in his corner. At that point, Tony Atlas himself came out, along with Alex Pinnix, and promised that now that he had learned what Inferno will do, he would teach him a few tricks of his own, with Alex watching his back tonight. The crowd cheered them on as Inferno and his friends finally left the ring.
The second match of the evening was the aforementioned rematch between NWS Hardcore Champion “Corrupted” Corey Havoc, with “Rampage” Rogers in his corner, against The Atomic Dog, who had “Mr. Asbury Park” Alex Pinnix in his corner. Havoc tried to jump Dog before the match started, but was quickly powered out of the ring. Atomic Dog went after Havoc outside the ring, and the two brawled on the outside, smashing each other into chairs and the ring steps. As Dog followed Havoc back into the ring, Rogers tripped him up, which was enough for Havoc to get the upper hand and go on the offensive. Rogers would continue to get in shots from the outside, making it virtually a two-on-one matchup. But then Havoc made the mistake of trying to hit The Dog in his exceedingly hard head, which only served to make him mad. Havoc tried to subdue Dog with a DDT, but even that had no effect. A running elbow by Havoc finally slowed Dog down, but he still could not hold Dog down for a three-count. Havoc tried to wear down Dog with a reverse bearhug, but Dog powered out, and a sleeperhold by Havoc was also powered out by The Dog. Dog went on the offensive with a flying spin kick and a series of head butts, finishing off with a Thumpin’ Powerslam. Dog covered Havoc, but Rogers jumped onto the ring apron and broke up the count. As the referee and The Dog went after Rogers, Danny Inferno snuck into the ring, and when The Dog turned around to confront him, he threw a handful of powder in The Dog’s face. Havoc rolled up the blinded Dog, and with his feet on the ropes for extra leverage, held him down for the 1-2-3.
Winner, and still NWS Hardcore Champion: “Corrupted” Corey Havoc.
After the match, an enraged Atomic Dog went after Rogers, only to be triple-teamed as Rogers, Havoc, and Inferno all attacked him. Alex Pinnix came into the ring to save his charge, but he was attacked and beaten down too before the ring officials got them to leave. The Dog seized the microphone and promised that he would not stop until he got his hands on Rogers and Havoc and took their titles away. The Dog then invited some youngsters to dance JYD-style in the ring with him before he left.
The next match was a tag-team match pitting Bobby Youngblood and “The Masked Odd-It-Tee” Goal-Duh, who came out as always with Cartman, against The New Nigerian Nightmares, Dima and Wakazie, accompanied by Queen Ieata. Youngblood started the match but was immediately overpowered by The Nightmares, who worked him over for a few minutes before he managed to tag in Goal-Duh. The 400+ pound Goal-Duh was able to initially out-power The Nightmares, but when he went back to his corner to “consult” Cartman, The Nightmares double-teamed Goal-Duh and threw him out of the ring, and went back to work on the easier target Youngblood. Suddenly there was a disturbance in a corner of the V.F.W. Hall, and the fans were stunned to see the *ORIGINAL* Nigerian Nightmares Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu (who had quit NWS at the start of the year) coming towards the ring, along with Queen Jimmima and their manager Stefon Benson. Dima and Wakazie and Queen Ieata did not know what to make of their appearance, and went back to working over Youngblood. Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu came into the ring, and also got in some shots on Youngblood, as if to show their namesakes the original way to get it done. The referee was just as stunned as everyone else, and finally called for the bell and threw out the entire match.
Winner: None (match thrown out).
The original and new Nightmares threw Youngblood out of the ring and then got in each other’s faces. Ring announcer Johnny Falco came into the ring and asked Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu what they were doing back in an NWS ring. Their manager Stefon Benson (the only one who apparently spoke any English) claimed that Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu had been unjustly fired by NWS, and they were back to claim their rightful place. Suddenly Falco was surrounded by both teams. Both Queen Ieata and Queen Jimmima grabbed Falco’s legs, then Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu crushed Falco between them in a Nigerian Sandwich, then threw powder in Falco’s face. As Falco collapsed and was helped out of the ring, the two teams turned on each other and began brawling inside and outside the ring. Security rushed the ring to try and break it up, but they were attacked, crushed, and thrown out of the ring as well. Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu and Queen Jimmima finally drove the New Nightmares out of the building, as Stefon confronted Commissioner Moore and once again accused him of unjustly firing Ma-Fu and Sna-Fu. Commissioner Moore said they had actually quit, but if they wanted back in so badly, then they were back in NWS.
After a short intermission, Referee Sargeant Jimmy Storm came out for the next match not only as the assigned referee, but as the temporary ring announcer, as Johnny Falco was still being checked out by the medical staff.
The next match was scheduled to be NWS Tag-Team Champions The Jersey Shore Jocks, Mike Dennis & Chris D’Andrea, defending their titles against NWS Junior Heavyweight Champion and 2011 J-Cup winner “The Love Machine” Nicky Oceans, and his partner the 2011 J-Cup Tag-Team co-winner “Mr. Entertainment” J.D. Smoothie. But only Mike Dennis came out to the ring without Chris, and Mike explained to the crowd what had happened the night before in Belleville, and that he and Chris were pretty much through as a tag-team, and he didn’t care where Chris was tonight. He said that as the true champion on the team, he was ready to defend the tag titles single-handedly against both Oceans and Smoothie. Commissioner Moore offered, since there were no other wrestlers available to be Mike’s partner, to allow Mike to forfeit he match, but Mike chose to wrestle solo. Initially, Mike’s enthusiasm and determination out-powered both Oceans and Smoothie, but the two-on-one odds caught up with him, and he was soon being punched and kicked by both opponents. After a few minutes of this, Referee Jimmy Storm called a halt to the match and said this was totally ridiculous. Storm took the microphone and said that since there were no other wrestlers in the back, and he was “The Wrestling Referee”, he offered to Commissioner Moore to be Mike’s partner for the match. Commissioner Moore agreed, and Storm removed his referee shirt to reveal his combat shirt underneath, and Mike “I’m Always Right” Jones took over as referee. Storm and Dennis tore into their opponents with new energy. Smoothie and Oceans were able to once again isolate Mike Dennis in his corner for several minutes, but Mike fought out of it, DDT’ed Oceans, and tagged in Jimmy Storm. Storm cleaned house, and all four men battled in the ring. Oceans and Smoothie went for double chokeslams, but Dennis and Storm reversed things and went for chokelsams of their own. Oceans and Smoothie blocked them and went for double Pedigree’s, but Dennis and Storm blocked them and hit double Stunners on both opponents and got the 1-2-3 pins.
Winners: Mike Dennis & Sargeant Jimmy Storm (who made not only NWS history but quite possibly all of pro wrestling history, by going from announcer to referee to wrestler all in the same match).
A visibly shaken, but otherwise uninjured Johnny Falco returned to the ring announcer’s position.
The next feature was billed as a “Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling Clinic” between NWS rookie Fast Eddie and area wrestling coach “Mr. Varsity” Jeff Sotelo. Sotelo easily outweighed Fast Eddie by at least two to one, so he handily dominated him as they went through a series of amateur takedown and reversal holds. Sotelo started to get arrogant and pushed Fast Eddie around, until Eddie had enough, and shoulder-tackled and drop-kicked Sotelo out of the ring. An angry Sotelo came back into the ring and gave Eddie a gorilla-press slam and a powerslam and covered him for the 1-2-3 pin.
Winner: “Mr. Varsity” Coach Jeff Sotelo.
The Main Event was a return matchup between Danny Inferno, with the 2 Rude Dudes “Corrupted” Corey Havoc and “Rampage” Rogers, against WWE Hall-of-Fame alumnus “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas, with his friend “Mr. Asbury Park” Alex Pinnix in his corner. Inferno attacked Atlas as soon as he got into the ring before the bell, and the match was on. Atlas quickly recovered and overpowered Inferno, who retreated to the outside with his buddies and threatened to leave if the crowd didn’t stop taunting him. Atlas called Inferno a chicken, and “The Chicken Dance” played in the arena to the delight of the crowd. After being threatened with the loss of his pay and suspension, an enraged Inferno finally returned to the ring. Inferno initially powered Atlas into the corner, but then made the mistake of ramming Atlas’ rock-hard head into the turnbuckle, which only made him mad, and Atlas rammed Inferno’s head into the turnbuckle in response. Inferno powered Atlas into the corner once again, and with the help of Rogers and Havoc on the outside, began to beat Atlas down. Inferno tried to take Atlas out with a chinlock sleeperhold, but Atlas powered out of it, and hit a barrage of punches and headbutts on Inferno. Inferno rammed Atlas into the corner, then grabbed him and held his arms behind him as Havoc jumped on the ring apron with a handful of powder, hoping to put Atlas out the same way as last night. But as Havoc threw the powder, Atlas ducked and the powder hit Inferno in the face instead. Atlas hit the blinded Inferno with a towering head-butt and covered him for the 1-2-3 pin.
Winner: “Mr. USA” Tony Atlas.
