Nash, Morton to sign contract, waivers in Woodstock on Sept. 17
Kevin Nash agreed to a tag-team match with Ricky Morton on one condition: that Morton sign a series of legal waivers that would prevent him from suing Nash in the event that Nash follows through with the beating that he has promised to deliver him in the ring.
Awesome Wrestling Entertainment announced today that Morton and Nash will formally sign on the bottom line in Woodstock at the AWEsome Night of the Superstars event on Sept. 17.
The waivers to be signed that night along with the contract for the match that will also be signed at the event at Central High School will keep any of the parties in the match – which features Nash and Doug Gibson against Morton and Robert Gibson, the Rock-n-Roll Express – from pressing any criminal charges or filing civil suits as a result of what happens in the ring in the main-event match.
“There’s two kinds of people in this world. The kind that holds a man down in a fight, and when the guy looks up at him and says, I’ve had enough, he quits. And then there’s a guy like me. I’ll determine when you’ve had enough,” Nash said.
Morton, for his part, can’t wait to sign the papers.
“I guess you don’t know Ricky Morton too good,” he said. “When I called you a c-sucker, now I’m coming to man up. I’m coming to stand up and stand my ground.”
Morton has been trying to trash talk Nash into a match for 10 years, dating to a private rift that developed between the two in the 1990s when both were in WCW. Morton has talked down Nash in numerous TV and shoot-video interviews, but Nash didn’t respond publicly until last month, when a Morton video aimed at Doug Gibson of AWE included a potshot at Nash, who Morton said had only gotten to where he had in the wrestling business by “s-king Vince McMahon’s d-k.”
In a video posted to the AwesomeWrestlingEntertainment.com website this week, Nash was visibly angry with Morton, whom he advised to make sure he had his affairs in order.
“I know you don’t have a pot to piss in, but make sure they know whether you want to be buried, or cremated,” Nash said.
The hope on the part of AWE officials is that the discord between Nash and Morton doesn’t spill over into the ring for the contract signing in Woodstock on Sept. 17. An AWE official speaking on the condition of anonymity said the company is developing a plan of action for preventing any violence from breaking out at the signing event that will include on-site security and coordination with local law enforcement.
“These guys really just can’t stand each other,” the official said. “We might be tempting fate having this contract signing. We don’t want to jeopardize the main event for Night of the Legends with one of them being in jail.”
A source close to the Morton camp told AwesomeWrestlingEntertainment.com that Morton won’t back down from the seven-footer if a confrontation were to take place in Woodstock.
“Kevin’s been running from Ricky for 10 years. Ricky just hopes he doesn’t chickens-t his way out of this before the papers are notarized,” the source said.
