Highlights from “Ring of Honor On the Road” (w/Kevin Kelly), courtesy of The Mayhem’s official correspondent, Paterson from New Jersey:
This weekend’s Ring of Honor events in Philadelphia (the final HDNet TV tapings in Philadelphia for the rest of 2010) and why he believes both Davey Richards & Homicide will stand out leading into ROH’s Final Battle 2010 in December: “It’s a really exciting time for ROH on HDNet, because we’re clearing more markets like Philly, Chicago, & a few others. I think it’s a weekend for opportunity. The slogan ‘It all starts here’ is timely, because it starts now for Davey Richards. The hunt continues, and the World Title march is on heading into Final Battle. He gets an opportunity against Roderick Strong or whoever is champion at the time, and I know Davey has a lot to prove, and I know Homicide has a lot to prove. Those two are going to look to stand out. I think with Erick Stevens, this is an golden opportunity, and we talked about it on this show. This is a guy that has ‘breakout star’ written all over him. He has an opportunity to against Colt Cabana, and we’ll see what happens in that one.”
Roderick Strong making a statement as the new Ring of Honor World Champion: “There’s a great opportunity for Roderick Strong to make a statement as the new champ coming in. I think all eyes are going to be on him, and I’m curious to see how he’s gonna hold himself. In my time with the company, there has been three champions: Austin Aries, Tyler Black, and now Roderick Strong. I was always impressed in how Aries carried the title, and I was impressed on how Tyler grew into the rank of champion. It took some adversarial situations with fans, and it took his match with Davey, but by the end of his reign he was just starting to get comfortable with the belt around his waist and the weight that it carried. Will Roderick be more of an Austin Aries or someone more like Tyler?”
Daizee Haze laying down the challenge, demanding new competition for the women’s division in Ring of Honor: “For years, whether it be women’s basketball, women’s soccer, or women’s wrestling, there has been those who clamor for getting women a bigger spotlight in athletic competition. I think when you have a women’s wrestler like Daizee Haze, who I have great respect for, I think Daisy’s words carries a lot of weight with me. She is someone I want to see in action. You could hand me two tickets front row courtside to a WNBA game or five dollars, and I would take the five dollars every time. I have no interest in watching the WNBA, but I’m a big NBA fan. With women’s wrestling, it’s not that far off the beam, and I wanna see these women step up. At the same time, the athletes themselves say ‘We don’t get chances’ and ‘We don’t opportunities.’ Ok girls, now you have a chance to do it. They have the opportunity to go out there and show in a company built like Ring of Honor is. They can go out there and hang and do what they do best. Then by all means, take the opportunity and run with it.”
