A featured tag team bout at Slammiversary has managed to bring back a former IMPACT World Champion in the process.
Scott D’Amore teamed with the returning Eric Young, a member of D’Amore’s Team Canada during the early days of TNA, to take on Bully Ray and Cody Deaner, the latter filling in for Steve Maclin due to injury.
Young was written out of IMPACT storylines in brutal fashion in late November by Deaner, who proceeded to take over Young’s faction The Design. Behind the scenes it was reported that Young signed with WWE around this time, gearing up for a return to either WWE’s main roster or NXT.
Fightful reported that Young asked for his release a few months later, being granted his 90-day non-compete clause which ran out last week.
The report also stated that this decision may have come as a result of Young having no interest in working for Vince McMahon after he returned to the company earlier this year, citing “moral, creative, and personal reasons.”
Young, who was previously reported as possibly being pitched for a new Bray Wyatt faction prior to his release, posted on social media stating he felt good about the decision:
