During his appearance on the most recent episode of the The Ariel Helwani Show, Bill Goldberg said that the plan is still for him to have a retirement match this year.
The 58-year-old WWE Hall of Famer also told Helwani that he will likely be cleared for in-ring action soon, after having undergone stem cell treatment.
“I haven’t been able to do much at all preparation-wise. But I think that the positives of the stem cell treatment were such a positive that it was worth me staying out of the gym for the longest period of time I ever have in my entire life and and staying away from physical activity…I’m going to jump in the ring and start sparring seven to eight days from now. I got to be smart about it. But yeah, 2025, it’s going to happen. And I don’t know who it’s going to be against. I don’t know when it’s going to be. But I guarantee you, whoever it’s against, they’re going to understand what it’s like being in there with Goldberg.”
Goldberg talked about whether his retirement match should be against current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The two had a segment last October in Atlanta, GA where WWE hosted the Bad Blood PLE. Gunther stood in the ring and trash talked Goldberg, which then led to him jumping the barricade in attempt to go after Gunther.
“If it was Gunther and I that would be logical. There’s some heat there, obviously, that’s already been placed. And he’s the new generation. I’m the old generation. It’s kind of like a passing of the torch in a way.”
Goldberg joins the show at the 2:16:55 minute mark of the episode. The entire show can be watched/listened to below:
