Former TNT Champion Adam Copeland made his return to AEW at Saturday night’s Worlds End pay-per-view in Orlando, Florida.
Copeland’s return came after Jon Moxley retained the AEW World Championship in a 4-Way Match over Orange Cassidy, Hangman Adam Page and Jay White. After the match, Mox and the Death Riders continued to give Jay White a beatdown, but are cut off by FTR. The lights in the arena go out and “Rated FTR” appears on the big screen. FTR and Copeland then go down to the ring to even the numbers against the Death Riders, with FTR clearing out Yuta and Claudio, as Copeland stares down Moxley.
Below is an excerpt from Alex Kahrs’ AEW Worlds End recap with more of Copeland’s return.
Mox turns around and finds himself face to face with the returning Copeland, who dodges a right hand to hit the ropes for a spear on the champ!
Up in the stands we see a concerned Christian Cage leave his seat as back in the ring, Mox is met with a chair leg in his mouth courtesy of Copeland until Castagnoli pulls him out to safety. Copeland’s music hits, but he isn’t finished as he gets a microphone…and when that one doesn’t work, he gets another one to call out Mox. He calls the champ a kid because Mox was “growing pubes” when Copeland started in this business, promising that Rated FTR is going to take it all. Copeland’s music hits once again as the Death Riders make their escape through the crowd, the commentary hyping up the confirmed trios match for Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen this Wednesday from Asheville.
Rated FTR stand tall in the ring, Jay White staring them down from the outside as we get another reminder for the “mother of all simulcasts” this Wednesday, and a shot at the AEW Revolution banner reminding us of our next PPV event as Worlds End, and AEW’s programming for 2024, comes to a close.
Copeland has been out of in-ring action after suffering a fractured tibia at AEW Double or Nothing this past May that will required surgery. The injury occurred during a steel cage barbed wire match against Malakai Black. Copeland retained the AEW TNT Championship, but had to relinquish the title, following his injury.
AEW has confirmed that Wheeler Yuta, Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli of the Death Riders will square off against FTR and Adam Copeland at this Wednesday’s special AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen.
Wednesday’s Dynamite will be the first episode to air live on TBS and Max at the same time.
Also scheduled for the show is Julia Hart vs. Jaime Hayter and Jeff Jarrett making a big announcement about his career.
