Report: Former WWE HQ building up for sale, redevelopment possible

According to a report from CT Insider, WWE intends to sell its former headquarters building at 1241 E. Main St., off Interstate 95’s Exit 9, on Stamford’s east side.

The report also notes the availability of the property confirms that it is no longer part of the WWE’s long-term plans, after the company opened up their new headquarters in downtown Stamford.

WWE’s former headquarters was constructed in the early 1980’s on 1241 E. Main, stands six stories and covers more than 90,000 square feet. It was appraised in 2023 for an estimated $18 million, according to the Vision Appraisal database.

The sale price of 1241 E. Main is “subject to offer,” according to the website of commercial real estate firm Newmark, which is listing the property.

There is still WWE signage on the building’s exterior, the American flag. WWE’s own flag no longer is on top of the edifice. In addition, the building’s parking garage has been repeatedly empty on weekdays in recent months.

CT Insider further notes that given the lack of activity at the building, it might end up being redeveloped. Newmark’s listing notes that the property’s “permitted uses include residential multifamily, research and development, educational uses, health clubs, etc.” In recent years, a number of other office complexes in the city have been approved or proposed for redevelopment

A broker at Newmark confirmed receiving an email from CT Insider that inquired about the listing. However he did not provide an on-the-record comment. A message sent to WWE by CT Insider has not been returned at the time of their report was posted.

WWE’s new location is at 677-707 Washington Blvd. WWE officials have said that the new headquarters covers about 400,000 square feet, including offices in the property’s 13-story tower and production space in the adjacent seven-story pavilion. WWE officials have also said that the company would have more than 800 people working at the new base, after the company had opened all of its space there. The new building also has a 30,000 square-foot production facility with five studios.
