During an interview with Hot 97, Mercedes Moné was asked about an incident in 2017 involving Saraya in WWE.
During a match on the holiday live event tour, the former Paige sustained an injury following a kick to the back from Mercedes, who competed at the time as Sasha Banks.
Addressing how she felt about the situation, the new TBS Champion said:
That definitely sent me on a spiral of depression because wrestling has always been my biggest goal and dream, and I’ve always wanted to be the greatest at it.
So, to hear any kind of noise that people might not think you’re safe… It wasn’t even the boys in the back, it was just the fans thinking you’re not safe. It’s scary sometimes, but that’s the business that we’re in. You never know when you’re going to get hurt.
Saraya previously opened up about the injury in 2018, recalling that Mercedes felt “devastated” learning that she would have to retire due to the injury.
