Bryan Danielson looks back on history with NJPW star ahead of Forbidden Door

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Bryan Danielson talked about the history he shared with Shingo Takagi, his opponent for the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view.

The pair faced off in the main event of Dragon Gate USA’s Enter The Dragon event in 2010, and Danielson noted the growth both men have had in their careers since:

What really excites me about this is how much we’ve both developed as wrestlers since then 2010. If you go through what Shingo has done since leaving DragonGate, he went to NJPW, the biggest company in Japan, he won the IWGP junior championship, and then he moved to heavyweight and won the IWGP heavyweight championship. When he’s wrestling, I’m watching.

Danielson, who is finishing his last year of full-time competition at All In next month in London, also recognized the significance of competing at the event that sees AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and Stardom collide.

This is my chance to wrestle Shingo again, and Forbidden Door is one of my favorite pay-per-views. That’s because of the uniqueness of it. Five years ago, multiple promotions didn’t work together to put on a super show. Now CMLL and Stardom are involved. This didn’t exist before. I love this show.

The match, a first-round Owen Hart Cup bout, is just part of a stacked card for Forbidden Door, which takes place Sunday, June 30 from the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York and is available through most PPV providers including TrillerTV.
