Despite buzz surrounding a recent conversation on the Grilling JR podcast, Wrestling Observer has reported that no real talks have been had to bring Shane McMahon to AEW.
Dave Meltzer gave a quote from Tony Khan, in which the AEW President stated “I’ve never met him or talked to [McMahon] in my life.”
The report comes after Jim Ross and podcast co-host Conrad Thompson discussed the possibility of McMahon heading to the company after a long tenure and association with his father Vince’s company, WWE.
Thompson said a mutual friend of he and Ross texted him with the claim that McMahon reached out to AEW wrestlers to hypothetically discuss the idea.
Meltzer noted that higher-ups from both sides of the food chain said they heard nothing close to the rumor, with some only citing Thompson’s statement as the extent to which they were aware of any such conversations.
That said, one source did mention to Meltzer that a conversation was had between Shane and an ex-WWE wrestler currently in AEW, but only in regards to the attention it would get if he came out on Dynamite.
