In an interview with The Messenger, Chris Jericho spoke on the head-to-head competition between AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT on 10/10, stating that the latter’s success in viewership and key demo was reliant on WWE bringing in top stars from the main roster.
“You know, you can only bring in Cena and Undertaker and Cody and everybody else so much because nobody wants to work on their secondary show all the time. And it was a fun little, ‘Hey, F-you AEW.’ I didn’t even really worry about it.”
Jericho claimed he had spoken to Tony Khan about bringing in celebrities who appeared on AEW programming in the past, but that AEW ultimately “relied on our show and our guys and our girls” to compete against NXT on the rare occasion.
Dynamite aired on 10/10 due to the MLB Playoffs airing on TBS in the usual Wednesday night timeslot.
Ultimately, NXT picked up the win in terms of ratings, with a 0.30 to Dynamite’s 0.26 in the key demo.
