People Magazine recently published an ‘exclusive’ interview with WWE’s newest signee Jade Cargill.
The former AEW TBS Champion discussed signing with WWE and more. Below are a few highlights from the interview.
On her time in AEW:
“I feel like it was a blessing. I would have never got a better start anywhere else.”
On what it is like walking in WWE and the Performance Center:
“I feel like I’m walking into a new light. AEW prepared me. It prepared me to have thick and tough skin. If I would have been a part of such a machine like WWE at a younger age, I would have probably been in my head so much – so much – but because I’ve worn several hats in this life and I’ve already been thrown in the fire, so it’s just prepared me for these moments.”
Cargill told People she grew up watching pro wrestling in the 1990s, but never envisioned herself as becoming a pro wrestler. She said that she instead, decided to go on and play college basketball at Jacksonville University before moving on to the French professional league. Cargill later moved on from playing sports and used her master’s degree as a child psychologist, working with foster children.
However, in 2019 when the working became very emotionally demanding Cargill said that a friend recommended she meet WWE Hall of Famer and AEW talent Mark Henry and maybe learn how to become a pro wrestler.
“This is like a whole other world for me…I was just going to the gym all the time, getting slammed on my back, and I still didn’t want to put it down. There was nothing like it. It was like something that just felt like it was under my skin.”
Cargill held the AEW TBS Championship for roughly 17 months, which is the longest that any AEW star has held a single title in the company. Cargill lost the AEW TBS Championship to Kris Statlander at the promotion’s Double or Nothing PPV this past May. Cargill wrestled her last match for AEW, losing again to Statlander, which was for the TBS Championship. That match was taped on September 13 for Rampage, which then aired on September 15.
WWE announced back on September 26 that Cargill had signed a multi-year deal with the company.
