According to Dave Meltzer on a recent edition of his Wrestling Observer Radio, there has “absolutely been talk” about WWE’s flagship show – Raw moving from Monday nights to another night of the week. It was speculated by Meltze that the discussion of the move is most likely due to Raw continually being trampled in the ratings by Monday Night Football.
ABC recently announced that due to the ongoing Hollywood writers and actors strike, the remaining portion of regular-season games set to air on Monday Night Football on ESPN will also be be simulcast on the broadcast network ABC.
The Sports Business Journal also recently reported that there is potential for WWE Raw to move to a new night of the week as part of a new media rights deal. However, it was said that a move for Raw has not yet been decided.
The report from the Sports Business Journal also notes that Disney and Amazon have had some talks with WWE over the media rights for both Raw and NXT.
WWE Raw has been airing on Monday nights since the show’s debut back on January 11, 1993. It was announced this past Thursday that the newly formed TKO Holdings Group and NBCUniversal agreed to a five-year domestic media rights deal worth $1.4 billion that will bring WWE Friday Night SmackDown back to the USA Network beginning in October 2024.
WWE SmackDown previously had aired on the USA Network from 2016 to 2019.
Also included in the new deal with NBCUniversal is four specials a year produced by WWE for NBC primetime.
