Report: WWE believes Hall of Famer is headed to AEW after his contract expires

According to F4WOnline, PWTorch’s Wade Keller says there is belief within WWE that after Edge’s contract expires at the end of September, he will be on his way to AEW.

It was noted that according to Keller, the reason for the move is that WWE “declined to meet Edge’s request” for what it would take to have him sign a potential new contract. It’s unclear what the specifics of what the 49-year old WWE Hall of Famer’s requests were.

The report from F4WOnline notes that Dave Metlzer confirmed the accuracy of the report from PWTorch. Meltzer said the following:

“PWTorch has learned that Copeland presented to WWE what it would take to retain his services, but WWE declined to meet his request. This has sparked a belief within WWE that he is probably headed to AEW and knew at that time what AEW could offer him (based, perhaps, on conversations with other wrestlers of his star power about AEW pay).”

Edge wrestled what he said was his last match on his WWE contract last Friday night on SmackDown in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as he celebrated his 25-years in WWE. During a post-match promo that was after the show went off the air, he told the fans that this was his final match in Toronto. He also said that he would take a week to recover and discuss future plans with his family.

Edge’s long-time tag team partner in WWE, Christian Cage, signed a multi-year deal with AEW back in March 2021.
