During Friday night’s SmackDown, Michael Cole provided a brief update on WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio.
Cole said that REy suffered severe whiplash and is currently recuperating at home, with his condition being considered as “day-to-day.”
Back on the July 28 episode of SmackDown, Mysterio and Santos Escobar were competing in the finals of the WWE United States Championship Invitational to determine a new number 1 contender to challenge Austin Theory. The match was stopped after Mysterio went down and didn’t get up, following a suicide dive by Escobar. Mysterio hit his head hard on the mat. He was immediately checked on by WWE officials and referee Jessika Carr, who made the decision to call off the match and award the victory to Escobar.
After Rey was helped to his feet by officials, he and Escobar embraced in the ring.
Escobar is set to challenge Austin Theory for the WWE United States Championship on next week’s SmackDown, live from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Rey is scheduled to appear on next Tuesday’s episode of NXT, where he will be in the corner of Dragon Lee who will challenge Dominik Mysterio for the North American Championship.
