In an interview with Daily Star in the UK, Sheamus discussed the state of his career after a big match at WrestleMania left him shy of getting the final piece in the Grand Slam puzzle…the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The former WWE Champion has only that title left to earn the accolade, but felt frustrated in failed attempts to win as far back as Clash at the Castle last year.
Despite those frustrations, however, Sheamus keeps his focus on the future and his eye on the title being contested between champion Gunther and challenger Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, looking to potentially get back into the title picture, noting:
“The journey is just as important, that story of me trying to get my hands on the title as it’s the one title I haven’t got. It’s still a fresh story. Even with Gunther and Drew’s match at SummerSlam, people are still mentioning me because it’s still my story.”
Ultimately, Sheamus looks to clinch that accolade before he finally retires, stating he hasn’t lost his motivation to perform at his best:
“I haven’t lost my passion, I haven’t lost my momentum and I can still go in the ring. As long as I can do all of those things, I’ll keep going until the wheels fall off.”
