Gunther makes WWE history, surpasses Randy Savage with current IC Title reign

Gunther has hit a total of 414 days as the WWE Intercontinental Champion.

As of July 29, 2023, Gunther is now the third-longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history. He has surpassed WWE Hall of Famer “Macho Man” Randy Savage, who held the championship for 413 days.

WWE Hall of Famer The Honky Tonk Man still holds the record for the longest reign at 453 days. Pedro Morales has the second-longest reign at 424 days.

Drew McIntyre will attempt to dethrone Gunther at SummerSlam. Gunther is scheduled to defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against McIntyre at the hottest WWE PLE of the summer. The show takes place next Saturday, August 5 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

Gunther won the Intercontinental Title back on the June 10, 2022 episode of WWE SmackDown when he defeated Ricochet.
