Darren Drozdov’s family setting up scholarship fund for athletes

Adam Schefter of ESPN took to Twitter on Sunday to announce the family of late WWE Superstar Darren ‘Droz’ Drozdov, is setting up a scholarship fund for athletes at Darren’s alma mater, Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, New Jersey.

Darren ‘Droz’ Drozdov passed away on June 30 at the age of 54. The cause of death is listed as natural causes.

Drozdov’s in-ring career ended suddenly when he suffered a severe neck injury during a match taped for SmackDown on October 5, 1999, and would spend much of his remaining days recovering from the toll it took on him.

Droz stayed on with WWE for quite some time after the accident, taking on a writer and columnist role. He would also make appearances on documentaries and other media both within WWE and outside of the company, such as Dark Side of the Ring.
