Former WWE Superstar was considered for Bad Bunny Spider-Man Spinoff

The film has been taken off Sony’s release schedule

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, NJPW star Mercedes Mone’ (former WWE Superstar Sasha Banks) was being considered for a role in Bad Bunny’s live action Spider-Man spinoff “El Muerto.” However, due to the current Writers Guild strike, it is unclear if the new project is even now a go.

The script, as of mid-spring, still is in need of additional work, which is now not possible due to the current writers strike. In addition, Bunny’s current touring schedule is another factor which has further complicated matters, adding more uncertainty to the film’s future.

The report also notes the film was originally scheduled to be released on Friday, January 12, 2024.

Bad Bunny was scheduled to be the main star of the new film. There is no word on what character or role Mone’ would have had in the film. The report also notes that “El Muerto” was set to be Marvel’s first live-action film to feature a Latino character in the starring role.

“El Muerto” was going to be based on the Marvel comic book character with the same name. The main character is a luchador who inherited his father’s mask, which gives him superpowers.

Bad Bunny last competed in WWE at Backlash on May 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he was successful in defeating Damian Priest in a San Juan Street Fight.
