MJF is scheduled to defend the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door 2 against Hiroshi Tanahashi.
However, on Wednesday’s Dynamite during a backstage segment with Renee Paquette, who announced the title match, while MJF was icing up after his match against Adam Cole. MJF told Renee that he rejected the idea of facing someone “from a rinky-dink indy promotion in Japan”. He then said that even if Tony Khan had booked it, it would not be the first time he no-showed a booking.
Tanahashi had appeared in a video during the show, where he talked about failing to capture the vacant AEW World Title at last year’s Forbidden Door in a match against Jon Moxley. He then issued a challenge to MJF for the AEW World Title at the PPV, which is June 25.
Following the main event which saw The Elite (The Young Bucks and Hangman Page) win against The Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli), Eddie Kingston, who “quit AEW” back on March 1 made his return. Kingston, who has been appearing on ROH TV, went right after Castagnoli, who he had been feuding with on ROH TV.
Also NJPW star Will Ospreay made a surprise appearance, attacking Kenny Omega.
